May be it is how we play the game??

Always enjoying controversy perhaps we now lack the odd micky taker?

What has also been missing is genuine discussion on how we play the game, I.E. we started the season as mostly youngsters plus a couple of old hands but we always strived to play the ball on the floor using long and short ball delivery with (aspiring) intelligence.

We improved as the youngsters learned to handle the physical demands of first team football but recently we appear to have lost the instinct for flowing football and mostly knock it long “down the channels”.

We do have individuals with the talent to be among the promotion hopefuls but we need to get back to dominating games by playing on the floor with constant movement and playing through a one/two touch mid-field until we get in to the opposition last third.

We of course need to clear our defensive lines and avoid risk but I for one would love to see more of the easy 1-2 touch little triangles used to take us in to the last third.

I think at the start of the season we were guilty of over playing at times. These days I think we are gradually cutting out passes for the sake of passing, and are putting balls into key areas far more often.

I like watching flowing football as much as the next fan, but my love for Canvey FC is greater than my love for The Beautiful Game, and as long as we score more than them then I'm happy!!

If we're gonna play like that, we need some midfielders who can learn to pass a simple ball to feet instead of trying to beat three or four players, often not tracking back once they've lost possession, by taking on one man too many.

Passes need to go across the park as well as down it. It was unfortunate for Halle to be sent off on Saturday because we lacked so much width, from having to have Leon slot in the middle. I would much rather have gone 4-4-1 tactically with someone as strong and quick as Fanibuyan playing up front on his own giving us the width to utilise Leon and Corbell more effectively.

The state of some of the pitches we've been playing on recently, especially Potters Bar and Redbridge has meant we've not really been able to play our passing game at times and we've had to grind out results by playing not so pretty football.

At this time of the season, it's a case of getting the results first and worrying about the style of football we play later.

I guess he was only on the bench because of the lack of players available.

You would've thought we would've learned from Curran at Dover. Ok, Fanibuyan didn't play, but if there was a possiblity of him causing more harm than good I wouldn't have named him. Kreyling did almost as much as Fanibuyan during the half-time warm-up.

As for lack of players to name, if Keiran English could be named on the bench and top marks for him coming on and doing his bit, I would've named another Reserve player. There must've been a Reserve defender willing to sit in, seeing as that position wasn't covered on the bench.

Batchy's comments in the Echo were that he wanted to keep 2 up front to continue and try to win the game. Had we have let Wakering more room at the back they could have gotten the from back to front a lot easier.

I would have been tempted to go one up and try to dominate through midfield as Matt says, but we won so I guess Batchy must take the credit for sticking to his guns.

Conversly, the Wingate pitch was beautiful. It looked like it'd never been played on.
