Slough Town vs Fleet - Line Ups, HT/FT Update

Yes, we battled very well today, but were so jekyll and hyde. So awful against Hayes and Winchester and then today's game. Going on recent performances we will be back to those performances for the next game at Godalming, but I hope not.

Today though I thought we deserved it. We sat off them first half with one man up front and that was not really working. In a way it was a blessing in disguise when Ridds went off injured as Jermaine probably had his best game for us so far. His first finish was excellent.

Agree with the man of the match choice on the website in Lawrence Brown, put himself about everywhere with Meddie not too far behind with Steve Daly who played Adam Wallace a blinder.

A couple of mentions to Lee Rendell who was great for us today and our new temporary keeper, who came in late and did a fine job.

Now please next week Slough don't go back to a Winchester type performance!!

First half wasn't really working with Tel up front on his own and we looked much better when Gumbs came on although it was a blow to lose Rids. Second half I thought we did really well put them under pressure and they clearly didn't like it.

Personally I thought the winner was Daly's. Not in the best place to see but it looked over before Gumbs made sure. We deserved the win and it is good to have stretched the gap over Bracknell.

Fleet were very disappointing. Farnborough were far far better and played proper football in appalling condition whereas Fleet seemed happy to knock the ball into the channels and hope. Surprised that Boro lost today.

Very positive day for the club and I think the news that Steve Easterbrook is now chairman is excellent. He seems a sensible chap, a reaslist, who knows that he needs to ensure funds are generated within the club whilst also prepared to chip in himself and look for other opportunities. It is nice to get some direct communication from the club and that is a massive improvement from previous years. The Management Committee are doing a good job dragging the club forward.

Well done Slough! Great second half performance - as has been said previously, the first half wasn't bad but it was difficult to see where we were going to get a goal until Jermaine came on. That's not to say we looked bad up front, Terry made some crucial runs and chased down the ball a lot, it just happened to be Jermaine on the end of the goals today.

Daly deserves praise and I made a point of telling him so after the match - i do think he's been far better over the past few weeks for STFC and shoring up that back line has provided a more confident team throughout.

Laurence, Meddie and Harper were also good today I thought, and Abbey worked hard and even put in a few good tackles towards the end. Lee Rendell worked his backside off too.

A proper team effort lads, well done to Betts for getting the best out of our boys.

Last 10 minutes of the first half we started to belief in ourselves and battle and we just carried this on in the second. But i really expected nothing from the game after the last couple of weeks, so it really was a very, very satisfying win.

The meeting afterwards to announce Steve Easterbrook as our new chairman rounded off a great day (it felt like old Wexham Park afterwards in a packed bar!)

Gary you must be gutted!

Oh, and don't worry Sue i wont mention your promise...

Also good to see Matty Miller and his dad there, both Slough Town season ticket holders!

replacement keeper looked very solid. good save from free kick

daly was top class

fair play to connor for playing at his age as an out and out right back

harper was heroic again

robbo did well at left back

abby impressed as right winger. some great skills much better from him

brown tireless as ever

meddie broke the play down very well

terry worked hard but when does he ever not??

jermaine took first goal very well

how good to have rendell back. he really is so similar to haddow

Vital result - doesn't matter about the performance when you pull off results like that, but overall it was fine and we battled well.

Laurence Brown, Steve Daly and Jermaine Gumbs were among the star players on the field with Brown outstanding in midfield.

It's strange to say but it's not the Fleet and Farnborough-type games I'm worried about, it's the AFC Hayes and Godalming-type ones. Under B&B we appear to raise our game against the better sides, instead of capitulating like the first half of the season.

We need to make sure we get something from Godalming next Saturday.

Well done all.

dont make any sense how we played well against Farnborough, Uxbridge and Fleet (top 5 or 6 teams) and yet played terrible against mid to lower table teams

if we can put that right we will be fine. ideally we can win or get something from the next 2 or 3 games

i think our season may hinge on the 2 local derbies in 3 days against burnham and windsor at home. 2 huge games in which if we won both would surely make us safe

I said we'd winas i walked in, lets hope we can continue o pick up points, great to see the lads response when the whistle went.

However, is a shame that a top of the table team brought an embarrasingly small amount of fans, even with our current position we would have taken at least 5 times that amount...

i think just as we raise our game for the big sides so hayes, bracnell etc raise theres as they would see us as a big club who they either have never played before or not in a while,

Having met Steve Easterbrook briefly a few weeks back, I fully agree with what Martin has said. Very much a good choice for the job. Not only is he a genuine supporter of the club, he has his head screwed on as regards business. Best of luck Steve.

What a great week end ... A battling performance from the Rebels..giving us all hope again ...we believe in our players that they can do it ..its still going to be a rollercoaster ride but we are in there fighting ...Thats exactly what our supporters want to see , If the team gives a 100 % and still loses we will be there for them ...please no more winchester or AFC hayes performances....
