Harpenden Town

Special1 - That's certainly news to me, this is the match report and there is no mention of Emanuel even getting near the ball let alone scoring, it was a solo effort of Ricky Villa at Wembley and David Ginola at Barnsley proportions:

Obviously the kid is trying to make himself look good in front of his old team mates. Now he just looks the fool.

If you see him, tell him he needs to get his memory sorted and to stop his vivid imagination running away with him.

I'll probably see him again this Thursday. He just can't stay away.

Football Man - How come you were posting at 1.03pm, I thought you would be on your way to Stamford Bridge to keep on schedule for your 13 games this weekend

Interesting that Harpenden Town will have an Under 18's team competing in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League next season:

HARPENDEN TOWN FC are holding open training for their newly formed Under-18 midweek side next month.

The sessions will be held on Saturday, July 5 and 12 at 10.30am at the ground in Rothamsted Park.

The team will be playing in the Southern Counties Floodlight League from September and the club are looking to add to the squad. The matches are midweek and will not stop you playing Saturday or Sunday football for another team. The club are also looking for some young players to break into the Reserve and first team during the course of the season.

If you are interested contact manager Dean Peters or Reserve manager Christian Garzarolli.

Good luck next season, it's heartbreaking to see a great Club like Harpenden Town struggle like you did last season.

Thanks again Rhodes.

We are pretty upbeat at the Club going into the new season. New First Team Manager, Who shifted us up from rock bottom in the last eleven games last season. New Reserve Team Manager and plenty of new talent coming through the Club. Know it will be a hard job to get promoted but the Club has every chance now the infrastructure is right and as you say, should be in the Prem, where it belongs.

nb: Perhaps some the Hertford Town Reserves would like to come down and play First Team Football this season??????

I know in Les Crabtree you have someone with the Club's best interests at heart and, as you say, the last couple of months of last season were very encouraging, in particular the 3-3 draw with 'us' at Rothamsted Park despite the fact that you were leading 3-0. What I can't understand is why your crowds are always so abysmal and second only to Brache Sparta as the division's worst, is there nothing you can do to increase awareness of the Club in the town as it should be a football hotbed with Luton, Dunstable and St Albans on your doorstep.

Folks - Have you noticed how conspicuous by their absence Harpenden Town have been on here for a while now, keeping their heads well below the parapet and quietly going about their business. Expect big things from the Rothamsted Park Club this season and my prediction is they will wipe the floor with Amersham Town this afternoon.

by your own definitions 1-0 is hardly a 'wipe the floor' scoreline though that may not tell the whole story of the game. Plus it has already been cited elsewhere on this forum that Amersham may struggle this season.

LATO - We will see how Harpenden perform on Tuesday evening against Kings Langley at Rothamsted Park, my guess is they will go to town. A 1-0 away win is always a very comendable scoreline as it means you have worked extremely hard for three points, I recollect the mighty Leeds team of the early seventies were experts at chiseling out 1-0 away wins.

As I've said before though the record books show they (Leeds) were also experts at under achieving in terms of winning trophies.

LATO - Take a look at Leeds United's amazing Championship winning record of 1973/1974 if the link works. What stood out most for me was their 1-0 wins at Carrow Road, Maine Road, St James Park and Loftus Road, I bet in each game they scored and shut up shop with Bremner, Yorath and Giles orchestrating midfield:

Well done..see you changed the meliberate distake in your post.

However it doesn't alter the fact that that so called great side woefully under achieved.

And for the record

1) Liverpool in 1978/9 scored more points in a two points a win season
2) Aston Villa in 1980/1 used fewer players - 14 I believe
3) Arsenal went through a whole season without losing a game

All three of those achievements are better than any thing the so called 'great' Leeds team managed

However to get back to the point of this thread, good luck to Harpenden this season. Not sure if it's the same people involved running it but they were always very hospitable to us.

LATO - The first result I will be looking for at 9.35 tomorrow evening will be Harpenden Town's against Kings Langley however do we know why they are not participating in the FA Cup this season as I note they are at home to New Bradwell St Peter in the league on Saturday.
