You mean to say they were stupid enough to promote
him from an AO.

Wader - You're a little behind the times, EO's are now known as D Grades and AO's are E1's, I assume that you were a Civil Servant once as you seem to have tried everything else.

Variety is the spice of life, and while you were acting as

'a meeter and greeter' for KTFC 2nd team Wader was sunning

himself on a sun kissed island.

So yet another snide comment and attempted put-down shows you

for what you are.......pathetic.

Keeper No One - It wasn't intended as a snide remark and you're showing your innocence and lack of knowledge of the big wide World due to your sheltered public school education in afluent Hertfordshire. I'm just saying that Wader is an Arfur Daley type of bloke, a Jack of all trades who has been there, done it and got the tee shirt, I was actually paying him a compliment.

Horace - I expect in your day there were still Clerical Assistants and Clerical Officers and going home at 4.30pm on the dot whereas now it is very different. Why are you suddenly so interested to know what Grade I am, do you lead such a dull life.

Here, here but not when the taker is far from adult and uninformred nor mature enough to make a rational decision. The nanny state that we are now part of is a disgrace, there are rules live by them if not pay a consequence in the same way that this is England, muliti-cultrual for sure no problem but never the less England, to many people for different reasons take the pi55 out of it and it's laws seemingly because they know they can get away with it on the back of some nandy pandy and literally 'get out of jail free' laws dictated to us be Brussels!.

WhenI first joined the Civil Service, there was no flexi time and we went home at something like 12 minutes past five. Also you needed 5 "O" levels, including English and Maths. You clearly didn't get in by that route!

From 15 I worked my school holidays in Smithfield Meat Market. I joined the Civil Service at EO level at 19 and during my 5 year stay also gained a profession in my spare time, preferring a monthly wage cheque to University, turning down a place at Stellenbosch to read International Politics along the way. I left the Service and started my own business. Add football and you have my history. Hardly Arthur Daley, unless you count all self employed people in that genre.

Haha, we used to get wedged in the exit door at 5pm grin

Towards the end of my stay flexi-time was introduced. I also remember going on strike for a day or two and picketing 10/20 Victoria Street at some point as well! (That nasty Union Rep made me do it).

I'm so old that I can remember that we had to sit waiting for the EO to clap his hands at 5.12, then we were allowed to get up and get our coats! We had to sign in in the morning at 8.30 with him standing over the book. He took it to the manager at 8.35!!

Aaaahhh....Those were the days...A bit of discipline and respect wink It makes me wonder Horace how you view football from yester year to the present? On the forums over the last couple of weeks especially, the swearing argument has come up again, both on and off the pitch, plus ill discipline by players. Is it so different now? If i could remember that far back i'd answer myself! grin

When I first started I too remember having to sign in with our HEO standing over us all. He was as gay as a nine bob note and made no secret of the fact. Initself I couldn't care less about his sexual preference but he was really weird and far too touchy. He insisted that the smell of a youngs man sweat was the best thing in the world. My hygeine regime couldn't have been stricter for the 2 and half years I was to work in that particular department.

Bitch - there always was swearing, but, like society in general, standards have fallen dramatically. Thing is, your average parent doesn't seem to think it matters any more!

The first time I ever saw crowd misbehaviour was in the 1962/63 season when champions elect of Div2, Liverpool came to Derby. Almost full ground in the days before any real segregation. At half time, a mass of Liverpool supporters decided to change ends and ran the full length of the pitch (about 1,000 of them) and jumped into the full terrace behind the other goal. I was 18 at the time, but there were many, many children in the crowd that were flattened by these goons. The 250 police on duty were all lined up along the side of the pitch, watching the half time marching band at the time, as football duty was just an opportunity to watch the game for free! And the Liverpool yobs got no better as the years passed!
