I take it you mean Melvin. Sitting near Melvin on the away trips he was always one of the first to say when he thought Standen had a good game.

Don't be so negative. I stand behind the goal and don't hear any moaning at individual players. But perhaps those that stand down the side hear some around them or are partial to giving abuse themselves, as Perry has admitted to? It's made out on here these past few days that a large number of Margate fans slate our own players when thats bull$hit by and large.

TW, Dolton always got encouragement from me both home and away particularly so because he was a young local lad trying his best. So don't overlook the fact that it was clearly a minority that gave him stick. I heard none to be honest.

Some grind their teeth better than others Tony,on the spur of the moment.Thats exactly what he should have done.

He could have put a stop to it DURING the match & BEFORE the game had concluded if it was that bad.Referees HAVE that option also of course but in the main they have to ignore it on the day, like the vast majority of other footballers do.

I'm getting a bit annoyed at people trying to blame others for Deans lack of self-control.

Again I stress I would be saying this about ANY footballer (or referee) if that were to be the case.

I thought Dean was fantastic and am very saddened by the whole thing.

Having said that,i reluctantly admit the club have done the right thing-although as others mention, the speed of the decision concerns me-did they really look at all the evidence, was the judgement clouded by Mr Pipers alleged comments immediately after the incident-from which there was no realstic going back, and i do think it shocking if Dean has simply received a letter, as opposed to being told face to face with it confirmed by letter-maybe thats what did occur.

It seems it could have been handled better, but much as it grieves me and i wish the club had not made that decision,it unfortunately was the only decision the Board could make for the long term credibility of the club.

i wish Dean well

Deano is the sort of player who will be picked on no matter how he plays , your name gets around on and off the pitch because everyone knows how hotheaded he can be and maybe its a fun thing for some people to do to see how far they can push that button weather your a player or a fan , if your the player and in the opposing team you would do what you could to get him a card thats footy thay know he`s got a weak spot so they will use it to there advantage but being a fan and insulting him from the terreces for eveyone to hear is differant its public and the stewards at the club should have put a stop to it but also Deano could have informed the Ref and maybe it could have been sorted out that way . I also think that whoever wrote the piece in the local should correct it and get the right facts before allowing the public to read it as it WRONG .

I hope Deano will learn from a big mistake he made and wish him well for the future unless he comes up against us of course .

AS previously posted, Dean was one of my favourite players and certainly imo one of Margates best players.

I wish he was still with the club; but i'm not quite so scathing in criticism of the Board.

Frankly-does anyone know what is in a first team players contract-i suspect it has clauses such as-they cannot post on forum whilst contracted and probably something along the lines that 'any self induced confrontration with a spectator will be regarded as gross misconduct-if the latter was the case-frankly the board had to make the unsavoury decision they have made.;and whilst we all think it seemd hasty,if that was the case, there was no need for suspensions, investigations etc.

I do have a nagging concern that the situation was pre-empted by Mr Pipers own alleged post match remark-it takes a big man to back down from that but as a leader-sometimes backing down is a sign of strength, confidence and a real leader (RT and BB 20 months ago !!).

I also wonder whether Dean was in RT's plans for next season- i would have thought so, but the number of suspensions must have concerned RT and Deans value per games played-was this an easy route for the club in those circumstances.

I think the Board could have acted better-but without knowing the terms of Deans contract-i am not sure they could have acted diffferently, and indeed if they could'nt; to do the deed sooner rather thasn later, was the best thing to do in the circumstances.

Maybe the board deserve a bit of credit for making an unpopular and tough decision.

I also suspect they are quite surprised as how overall, there decision is so unpopular and how revered Dean was by so many.

As supporters'lets not be too hypocritical here-after Dean's last sending off-many were pretty critical of Dean and his value.I s uspect the Board took note of the 'popular opinion at the time',and maybe mis-read it.

Frankly, despite Dean being one of my favourites, i am suprised how the support here is so much behind Dean .

My support remains behind Dean, but i am not sure it is doing any good-and indeed could be completely wrong-to be so scathing of MFC.

As Zhukov posts,i do dislike the wrapping up of the situation in the languaging of-we are a 'family club'-fluffy words.-could someone describe to me -what is a family club and the difference between a family club and a non family club !!

All the best again Dean.

Ultimately, i support MFC and not the Board of MFC or an indivuidual player, so lets get on with it, and beat Hendon today.

Up the 'Gate

oh, as a 'PS', I will be interested to see how the events of this week will affect the team this afternoon? (and yes, I will be at the game!!)

I am hoping the team, as a whole, will rise above it in the professional manner that we all expect and go out and crush Hendon in a convincing style!!!

For what it's worth i think this was the last straw for Dean. He had probably(though i don't know for sure)been on a final warning. This i think showed on the pitch where he walked away from provocation a couple of times in recent matches. Unfortunately he could not handle direct abuse. In his defence it was,i was told vile, more so than recorded on here. How players put up with i don't know. I could not but they are public figures i suppose.

We are all wise after the event and always wish to support the players who we see trying hard week after week. We are not party to the board. Often we would like to be and criticise. God knows how much i detested CK's downfall and the handling by the board. I was livid.

With Dean i am afraid he has brought about his own downfall, very sadly. An excellent player i agree and a very sad loss. Never a nice way to go.

I wish him the very best as he was certainly Gate through and through.

My big question is if it did not headline in the paper would we be talking about it now?? Press eh!!

Great post Geoff-and think we see this one similarly.

Like your last paragraph, i equally wonder if Mr Piper had not made his alleged public comment on the matter equally quickly on saturday,(just like Dean-was that a 'heat of the moment reaction')could this have been handled differently.

Really and regretebly, Deans 'fate' was sealed from the moment of that comment-as i said-the best and most confident leaders, are sometimes prepared to back down.

Difficult for everyone though.

Lets just win today.

been thinking a bit more about the Board's decision;and again much as i hate the decision made, i can see that the Board probably did the right thing.

Who among us can say that it would not have happened again-by Dean-or maybe another player.

Had that occurred, the Board would have been castigated by supporters,Kent FA a,newspapers, council (who have the lease) and just about everyone living on planet Thanet.Maybe the club would have been banned from playing at HDP.

Horrible decion, but very very reluctantly i think the right one.

All the best Dean.
