uiMY ALTERCATION WITH DEAN STANDEN-THE TRUTH

I HAD WANTED TO PUT THIS ON THE FORUM EARLIER BUT HAVE WAITED UNTIL I HAD WRITTEN TOO AND SPOKEN WITH THE CLUB.

THE FACTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

HAVING JUST SEEN US GONE A GOAL BEHIND AND DEAN SLICE THE BALL MILES WIDE I SAID "YOUR CRAP STANDEN".

EMOTIONS WERE HIGH BECAUSE OF THE PENALTY AND I AM THE FIRST TO ADMIT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SAID.HE OBVIOUSLY HEARD AND SHOUTED BACK IN MY DIRECTION THAT I DID NOT HEAR.

AFTER THE GAME HE WAS VISIBLY AND LOOKED GENUINELY UPSET HE CAME OVER TO A CROWD OF PEOPLE TO MY LEFT AND I THOUGHT I HEARD HIM SAY "I DON'T NEED THIS I ALWAYS DO MY BEST,WHO WAS IT"

THE EASY AND COWARDLY THING TO DO WAS TO WALK AWAY ANONYMOUSLY BUT HAVING SAID WHAT I SAID I ALSO BELIEVE IN BEING HONEST AND UPRONT.

I CALLED HIM OVER AND SAID "SORRY MATE I APOLOGISE IT WAS SAID IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT" HE REPLIED "WE NEED TO SORT THIS OUT NOT HERE"WE THEN BOTH WALKED SIDE BY SIDE ALONG THE PERIMETER WALL.HE ON THE PITCH SIDE ME ON THE SUPPORTERS SIDE.

AT THIS POINT I WAS COMPLETELY UNAWARE THAT APPARENTLY HE HAD BEEN GIVEN FAR MORE SERIOUS ABUSE ALL AFTERNOON WHICH IN HIS EYES (AND THE THANET TIMES) I HAD JUST ADMITTED TOO!!!!!

FROM THE TIME HE SAID WE NEED TO SORT THIS OUT NEITHER OF US SAID ANOTHER WORD AND WHEN WE GOT TO THE CAR PARK GATES STEVE MCKIMM ARRIVED AND TOOK HIM BACK INSIDE THE PITCH.

YES HE DID TAKE HIS SHIRT OFF BUT MOST PLAYERS DO THAT AFTER THE GAME ANYWAY.WHAT HE MEANT BY "SORTING THIS OUT"ONLY HE CAN ANSWER BUT I DID NOT TAKE IT TO BE THREATENING.

I CATEGORICALLY DENY SAYING ANYTHING OTHER THAN SUPPORTING MARGATE DURING THE REST OF THE AFTERNOON.WHAT IS BEING SAID IN THE PAPER AND ON THIS FORUM IS COMPLETELY UNTRUE.

I HAVE SUPPORTED MARGATE HOME AND AWAY SINCE 1969.I DO NOT MAKE A HABIT OF SLAGGING OFF PLAYERS BUT HOPE WE ALL APPRECIATE IS A PASSIONATE GAME AND SOMETIMES REGRET THINGS WE'VE DONE OR SAID I CERTAINLY HAD NO IDEA OF THE REPOCUSSIONS .

I AGAIN APOLOGISE TO DEAN AND THE CLUB AND BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO PUT THE RECORD STRAIGHT AND GET HIM A BEER MEANWHILE I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF THE PLAYERS READ THE FORUM OR ANYBODY OUT THERE HAS CONTACT WOULD ASK YOU PASS ON TO HIM THAT IT WAS NOT ME WHO SLAGGED HIM OFF ALL AFTERNOON AND THAT IT WAS ONLY ONE COMMENT.

I WAS TEMPTED TO PUT MY NAME BUT I THINK MANY OF YOU KNOW ALREADY AT LEAST MY FACE AS WE ARE A RELATIVELY SMALL BUNCH OF REGULAR SUPPORTERS.I WAS THE GUY IN A LEATHER BROWN OVERCOAT STANDING IMMEDIATELY TO THE LEFT OF THE LEFT GOALPOST LOOKING DOWN THE OLD SLOPE.

IF ANYONE DOUBTS WHAT I AM SAYING IF THE CAN HONESTLY LOOK ME IN THE FACE IN FRONT OF A CLUB DIRECTOR AND SAY THEY SAW ME ABUSING DEAN OTHER THAN I HAVE ALREADY SAID I WILL TEAR UP MY SEASON TICKET AND WALK AWAY.

IN THE SAME TOKEN APART FROM LEAVING THE PITCH AREA IN MY OPION DEAN DID NOTHING WRONG AND IF WHAT I AM BEING TOLD IS TRUE ABOUT WAS BEING SAID TO HIM WAS VERY RESTRAINED ESPECIALLY AT THE TIME HE WOULD HAVE BEEN CONVINCED IT WAS ME.

I DON'T KNOW THE REPRUSSIONS FOR HIM I HOPE NOT SERIOUBUT I JUST WANTED TO PUT THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

I think the stewards should have some further training to help quell incidents like this perhaps? I go to Old Trafford regularly, and yes, I know they are a mega-club but the stewards there do not take any crap from verbal abuse and deal with it promptly - and remember, we're talking about 76,000 fans and only a few hundred stewards at max. I have heard all sorts of abuse when watching Margate and we all know 99.9% is said in the heat of the moment as perry said. Occasionally that 0.1% is extremely malicious and must not be tolerated so I'm sure perry's comments fall into the 99.9% category and not the latter as we sometimes hear.

Glad perry put his side over - maybe you might like to shout your comments to someone other than Dean, who we all know is a very 'committed' player!! (Look how many games he's missed this season!!)

Lets move on and get behind the Gate at this critical time of the season.

There are ways of expressing your disappointment at players not performing without the need to resort to swearing, but conversely players should rise above the odd abuse aimed at them.

How many times have we heard over the years one player or other singled out to be the boo boy. Dean has that from certain quarters at the moment but in the past it has been Paul Lamb, Vic Pain and Eddie Clayton to name three and they kept their agression on the pitch.

To be fair to Dean, Frankie, he wasn't being aggressive, he just wanted to chat away fronm the kids to the fan (albeit it appears that Perry was not the one who said the worst thing).

I haven't come in on this before because of two things.

1)Its known that I'm not one of Deans biggest fans so I didn't want it to look like I was jumping on the bandwagon.I take no delight in seeing Dean in the news for the wrong reasons.Trouble is he seems intent on doing that this season.

2)Secondly,nothing truthful had come out..until now!.

Now then,in a similar way that a supporter shouldn't jump the fence onto the pitch to speak his mind to a player or official(yeah I know I did so once myself, shame on me)the same should be said for a player leaving the pitch,(especially with his playing kit on)to face a supporter who,as mentioned, might well have been frustrated with that players missed kick, deliberate handball, unecessary foul, loss of temper at an opponent, scything tackle, misplaced pass, wayward shot or whatever.

This happens in football everywhere but you don't see all of those players jumping the fence or going through a gate to face those that are voicing their momentary disgust.

Why?,because they know these things happen in football & accept it.They also have restraint & a responsibility to the club they are employed by.

A question to you all.How many of have voiced your disgust to a referee either at one point in a game or continuously throughout a game.Saturday being a perfect example.(I know I most certainly did).

Many of you I would imagine & many times too. Why? Because he is having a poor game thats why,or made an ridiculous decision.

You don't then see that official run over to those damning him at the time or after the final whistle do you? They take more stick than any one player ever does, most weeks if not every week.

Dean was wrong to do as he did & as others have said it should have been pointed out to the stewards to deal with via the referee, if it was as bad as has been mentioned.

Thats the way it SHOULD have been dealt with.

Officials & players should,& have to,ignore this kind of thing. They have a responsibility to themselves & to the club.

I feel Dean let both down on Saturday by his actions but I'm sure the club will take all things into consideration & come to a satisfactory decision/conclusion on this matter.

Lets hope its sooner rather than later so that we can can all concentrate on the forthcoming game at Hendon.

p.s.Mr.Perry,good on you for being up front on here & for telling it as it was.

i agree if the facts havent been gathered then the decision is harsh BUT, and this is the last thing i say on this matter, YOU SHOULD NOT LEAVE THE PITCH TO CONFRONT A FAN regardless whether its aggrivated or not, christ jay saunders once told us fans to F uck off but none of us jumped the barrier and confronted him i know my opinion will not gel with alot of fans but rules are rules and you just dont do it, and dean knew that maybe in hindsight if he had approached fan and asked to 'discuss' it in the bar afterwards that prob would have been a better option but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I think the club are setting an example. Saying that i would like to say that Dean will be missed and its sad this had to happen and wish him all the best in the future.
