i think the last two fixtures were a joke, the fleet had to travel for over 9 hours play two football games 3.5 hours and get two night sleep approx 16 hours 9+3.5+16=28.5 hours, and they had to do all that within 43 hours was it, as my brother said it "would be allowed to happen in the premier league" would it ball's like

Unfortunately this sort of thing happens when you are still in cup competitions.

I don't think anyone can really blame Torquay for not wanting to play on a Sunday, they should be blaming the League for taking Satantas 30 Pieces of Silver, and letting Satanta dictate that games are played on a Thursday, and not a Tuesday or Wednesday!

When the Setanta Shield game (non-televised) at Exeter prior to Christmas was moved to an inconvenient date and time for travelling fans, we were informed that the interests of the players was the only consideration in reaching this decision. When the Crawley game was shifted from Tuesday to Thursday last week, in reality the only consideration was the money the game being televised would earn the Club. True, the Club did then try and get the Torquay game put back to Sunday without success, but as a Club we were partly complicit in the final arrangements and therefore the generally poor performance of the team on Saturday. Certainly it was not ideal preparation. No doubt EUFC when signing up to the Setanta deal were aware fixtures could be moved. I don't imagine the Board voted against the deal. Usually it is the attending fans who are most greatly inconvenienced to no real concern of the Club. On this occasion it was mainly the team. What goes around comes around. In the circumstances of the details of how this fixture being so close to the previous one came about, I don't think that the publicity given to LD in alleging a "lack of respect" really did him as a manager, or ultimately EUFC, any favours, as it came across to non- Fleet supporters that we were whinging at something we had ourselves a hand in engineering.

I honestly can't understand what the problem is with playing two games in 48 hours,

(i) The players are professional and as such should be able to more than cope with such a schedule as a one-off.

(ii) Playing 2 games in such a short period is nothing more than used to occur almost every Christmas and Easter.

I agree for the most part, John, but Xmas and Easter are at least level playing fields in that the other team has played two games over the same period. Where it's a one-off, one of the other teams might have had anything from three to seven days better rest and preparation.

But as you say, as a one-off it shouldn't be a massive concern.

I think they mean that the Torquay match was the last of the eight.

I have no idea why they put that though, Torquay also had three games in eight days.
