How to beat Barnet ?

Recommended Posts

At least the defence is stating to look a little more secure, albeit against the 2nd poorest team in the league. But 0-0 draws are quite simply not good enough now . We MUST score goals and start winning. Playing a defensive 4-4-2 against Barnet, Farnborough and Halifax may earn a total of 3 points, but will almost certainly condemn us to the drop.

It is still in our hands, let us ATTACK, score some goals and stay in the conference.

My team playing 4-3-3, v Barnet is thus :

Wilkerson

Lovett Burton Duku Skinner

Kwashi McKimm Jackson

Hatch Budge Evans

Subs :

Turner

Owen

Wilkins

Stadhart

Pennock.

Can agree somewhat

Wilkerson

Lovett Duku Wilkins Skinner

Owen Macca Jacko

Hatch Budge/Che Evans

Wilkins in place of burton purely because of his attacking abilities!

Hatch for his aerial prowess and non stop work rate

Budge because he must be high on confidence after a scoring spree for Swifts.

I happened to bump into Tostao on his way to training this evening and he said that the team were confident that they could beat Barnet on Saturday. He was also confident that we can stay up in the Conference. I agree that we should show some ambition and attack. I just hope it isn't too nerve wracking!

I kept bleating on about that myself at the end of last season.....Boylan always looks a constant threat - It would've been great to have had him in our squad this season.

Regarding the above formations, I'd also love to play Louie as the third man up front in the hole behind a front two pairing of Che and Liam, but the trouble is with a player of the calibre and industry of Mark Gower in their midfield, I'm afraid to say we really need four across the park. I'd rather settle for a dire nil-nil than experiment at this late, important stage of the season and concede one more than we manage to score and go down....

442 doesn't have to be defensive at all, as long as it's not too static. I think this is our best formation, as it allows for greatest fluidity without running the risk of overstretching defence or midfield. 3 up front can leave a hole in midfield & mean the forwards never get decent service anyway.

I'd like to see us vary our play more, more running at the opposition, as well as trying to get round the back. We seem to want to hit the front men early all the time, lately. We have excellent players in midfield who can bring the ball forward, under control, & support the forwards when we're pressing.

If the players are up for it & the crowd are patient, I think we'll do it. I'd prefer to start with Tostao & maybe Liam on the bench, hopefully find ourselves a goal up, as the 2nd half advances, then bring them on for some classic "attack is the best means of defence" for the last 20, nicking another to finish them off.

If ony it was that easy ...
