EUFC Fan of the Season

Just posted the following on the MyFC site. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

Just a thought for next season. Why don't we have a Fan of the Season award, nominated and voted for by the regulars at Stonebridge Road. Not quite sure of how it would work but nominations could be made at the mid/end of March 2009 and those attending the penultimate home game could be given a voting slip as they go through the turnstiles. The winner could then be presented with the award on the pitch at the last home game of the season - prize could be a trophy and a season ticket for the following season. What do you think?

Unworkable IMHO

Easy for a group who go together to nominate one of their mates and rig the vote.

The guy who goes on his own to all the home games, and most of the away games, you know him, wassisname? How will he win?

Nice idea - but there must be a better way for the club to thank ALL the fans who turn up!

Maybe a way to thank the fans could be in the final game of a season. I do not know how they would thank the fans but it could take the form of a freebie of some sorts that you can only get by attending that game. Do not know if that will work but it is just an idea cause I reckon all the fans should be thanked.

Vouchers for season ticket holders or stamped loyalty cards for non season ticket holders that get them a couple of free beers in the bar after the last game.

Use vouchers for 'meet the Players'..pint & pie night after training.

Photo with their favourite player or the team.

All low cost but meaningful for the recipients.

Regular match goers should get some recognition.

PS If I was there I'd take all three options!

Also, it's unfair to categorise who is the best fan. Is it someone who goes to all the games but has a reputation for causing trouble? Is it someone who works tirelessly on matchdays but who won't make any noise? Is it someone who bankrolls the club's existence who has to work most games, and without working on Saturday would not earn enough to prop the club up? Is it the casual fan of fifty years or the die-heard fan of five?

I appreciate the thought of the award but think that if we start categorising fans, we are in danger of devaluing the efforts of many people who each bring their own qualities to the club. By the way, the examples used are purely hypothetical.

You don't need to be voted fan of the season to get those Mick.

The season ticket comes with two vouchers for free pints.
Anyone who hangs around in the bar after the match can meet the players.
As long as you are polite the players are normally quite happy to be photographed with the fans.

Which is all good.
But I was thinking of a more formal recognition/occasion to reward regulars.
Team photo with regular attendee in Town strip...really part of the team!...12th player.
Not a fan of 'Fan of The Year'.
Some AFL clubs (Collingwood, Richmond)actually send out Birth Certificate signed by Parent's favourite player to celebrate newborns...now that's getting them young.

Delusions of grandeur methinks.

Would that be Ipswich Town? Surely shome mishtake?

FFS would be nice if people remembered the name of the team they allegedly follow!
