UU, I suppose you are trying to twist and stir it all again,

On the MYFC site, as you are a member, you will know that they have a system called "add a friend", its function is just the same as a PM on here, so thats all you do to pass on a message to a fellow member.

Overnight accommodation for the team on longer distance away games

Could this help the Fleet make the play-offs?

Rating: 4.0 (based on 165 reviews)

The realities of Blue Square Conference football is that, despite the desire and best intentions of the coaches, the financial constraints at this level often prevents them from achieving ideal preparation for matches.

An early insight into this was the lack of portable goalposts and match quality footballs for use in training, a situation which surprised many and was resolved almost instantly by members donations. It might be just a coincidence but there is a possibility that the supply of this new equipment has played a small part in the recent excellent form of the team.

The team are now placed only six points away from a play-off position with a game in hand and continuation or further improvement of this form could lead to a very exciting end of season. The thoughts of 27,000 members turning up and cheering the team on at Wembley on a sunny May afternoon have lead me to contemplate if there are any ways that we could have some influence over this happening.

Well I think there is. In this league most clubs travel by coach to all away matches, entirely appropriate for many matches but inadequate and poor preparation for any journeys of more than four hours. Fixtures between now and the end of this season that fall in to this category would be Torquay, Halifax, Altrincham, York and Droylsden, where a much better form of preparation would be overnight hotel accommodation so the players are not travel fatigued.

How much would this cost?

A rough estimate per match would be £1,800 (ten twin hotel rooms at £100 each, and £800 for an extra days coach hire).

How would this be paid for?

At present it is important that the club eradicates the monthly losses and until this happens it wouldn’t be advisable to fund this through the club, as such the best way to pay for this could be through voluntary donations in a similar way to the funding for the goalposts and footballs.

What would the benefits be?

The direct and visible benefits could be better results away from home. So far this season on our travels we have achieved 15 points from 13 games, a reasonable return but an area where there is scope for the most improvement.

The indirect benefits are good public relations and showing goodwill toward the team, which may further improve team spirit and might lead to player recognition of the benefits MYFC can provide them, and could lead to players being keen to sign new contracts and attracting players we want to sign in the future.

In conclusion, the race for play-off places is going to be very close this season, and by providing overnight hotel accommodation for the team on the longer distance away games we may reap the rewards of a few extra points that make all the difference.

It might turn those daydreams of a sunny day at Wembley on a May afternoon into a reality, it might enthuse sufficient numbers of locals to boost future attendances at home games, and the publicity would undoubtedly increase our membership numbers and provide additional funds for development of the club next season.

All this potential for a small voluntary donation, would you be willing to donate to this?

By a very strange coincidance, on the same day as this article was sent in about hotels, I did one about hotels ! . So I am putting it here.

=== Should the team be given more overnight hotel stays when playing away ? Let Liam have the option and funds for when the need arises ? The question is this. Do we want to give the players the best possible chance to win games and in turn give us great days out watching the Fleet ? . Earlier this season, they were very late arriving at Farsley Celtic in Leeds and I believe their arrival at Stafford Rangers was not far from 2.30pm for a 3.00pm kick off. How can a professional athlete be at his best physically and mentally when there is the chance that they can arrive so late at a ground ?. I travel over 215 miles to a Fleet home game and I always stay at a clean budget hotel. I know I have been travelling for 4 hours or so when I get out of the car and stretch, how must that effect a player ?. Also there has to be the mental side of it as players prepare themselves for the afternoons game. I am told that a journey from Gravesend up to say Manchester , you can not say the journey will take 3 hours or whatever. On a bad day it could be 5. My journey time back to York this weekend was 1 whole hour quicker than my trip to Kent.

Can a deal be done with a national hotel chain or possibly 2 to get a good rate for a block booking for the team in hotels around the country. I am not talking about top hotels. To give an example, I stayed at Holiday Inn Express where a double room was £45 on an offer for bed and breakfast for a double room. Lets say we have an away match in the trophy, surely we have to give the team its best chance to play the game refreshed ?. The win against Weymouth got us £6,000 . How much would say 12 rooms cost ?, Even at £600 or £700, surely it would be a good investment in the team ?. This would only have to apply to selected games in a season, and they probably do stay at some away games. Even if a hotel was an hour from the match, they could have a nice steady trip to the game instead of a motorway lottery.

If Liverpool played us in the cup at Stonebridge Road, do you think they would leave Merseyside at 9am and hope the M6 and M25 were not going to have a bad day ? Could a chain of hotels be a sponsor ?, i.e. official Hotel sponsor of Ebbsfleet United. Are we playing at this, or do we want to do things properly ? Give Liam and the boys the very best chance of success. If we get beat, fair enough. But to lose a big match and then to find out they had a horrendous journey to the match would hard to take. We are following a professional team here. Lets be proud of The Fleet, Treat them well and let them know that they will be cared for and appreciated. I am sure they will respond. What they have achieved in the last 2 months is amazing and I just hope Liam and the boys can get the message that we are so proud of them
