I wonder if watching that would have any effect on the council?

Margate may have been a great place before most of us were born, apart from Cookie etc. But its certainly not great now. And yes we always can go to Westwood Cross but what has happened to the town(s)

The Council need to do more to get people and businesses back into the town.

Did I say it was a crap place before I was born then? Don't think so! Or was there supposed to be a joke in there somewhere that I missed. Mind you I wasn't born before I was born laugh so I wouldn't know personally, but I do know what I grew up in & what I was told, about those days.
It was a decent & exciting place to come even AFTER I was born & up until these past 10 years.
I think on the whole that theres some kind of agreement between us here though if I'm not mistaken.

I moved to Margate in 77 and it was a thriving seaside resort but by the early 80's it was dead and buried thanks to the council who basically didn't give a damn. Nothing appears to have changed!!

On the upside, as air fares move towards the dizzy heights of only the super rich being able to afford them, British seaside resorts will once again become popular. With the summers we're starting to have, why fly hundreds or thousands of miles to get a tan?!!

One of the national papers last week reported on Margate about to become a "boom town" with the redevelopment of the old town area, it seems that we have been hearing about that development for the last 20 years or so and yet little has been done, unfortunately both Ramsgate and Margate suffer from greedy developers buying up prime sites then doing nothing other than the odd fire or three eg Pleasurama, Dreamland and the Butlins hotels. Then all of a sudden planning permission is granted for retirement homes.

Until the Council find the desire or the money it seems nothing will change, bit sad really as i will be coming home to Thanet in the next couple of months having been away for 5 years+ I was hoping thit it might be better on my return but i think not. Even my team has dropped a couple of divisions since i was away!!

Re generation is needed desperately and thats not only Westwood cross but that shows what private developers can do, we need private money in the more fundamental areas, as a seaside town (and i include ramsgate)we should promote the fantastic beaches that we have and use them as a base to improve, we keep hearing of private/public partnerships it does not take a genious to realise that the whole of Thanet is a prime site and should become an asset to the county and south East region, if only there was some vision by those that are in power. (sorry rant is over, for now)

Frankie, as a matter of interest, have you ever stood to be a councillor?? And if not, why? You, like many others, are full of good ideas and its people like yourself who would get things done.

(I know 'stood' is a bit of a sore point for Frankie but that is the correct term!!!)

PS I'm not taking the pi$$ - its a serious question!!

Was asked by a leading Tory to put my name forward for last elections (even though they knew my thoughts about Ezekiel)but have limited time at the moment and also there was something about me only being back in Margate for 3 years excluding me (had to be here 7 years)

Will continue to kick out at what I think is wrong from the sidelines until I'm in a postion to take direct action!!!!!
