Sevenoaks v Margate (UPDATES)

A good training match. The new Centre Forward showed quite a few deft headers but was generally lacking in pace. This resulted in him playing on the left wing, and left back in the second half. I think his name was Gaff or at least the players called him gaffer or something like that. The goalie in the first half was I think from Gillingham and the #11 was French name of lua or something like that. The young lad who scored 2 goals was called Frankie and seemed to be someone Ryan Martin knew along with the right midfield player.

Thanks Joseba-interesting snippets of info.

Its like pre-season all over again !!

I wonder whether will will hear of any of these guys again this season, or maybe they will re-emerge next pre-season.

Seems like it may have been a worthwhile exercise all round just the same, and that RT is doing a bit of forward planning. (love the disguised message about the 'new' centre forward.Oddly enough, i seem to remember suggesting RT should plonk himself up front if we are losing with 15 minutes to go )

Quite an entertaining game, second half at least. Thought Corbishley played well and presumably Trotty's thinking about playing either himself or Jay up front as a stop gap to give us a bit of an aerial threat whilst Rob's out.

Star man for me was half time sub Seb who played wide right. He really was quick, ran at people every chance he got and showed some nice touches. Involved in two of the goals and almost scored a cracker himself after finishing a solo run with a thunderbolt that smashed off the bar. Hope to see him again.

Of the six subs we used I only recognised Matt Bowles, then there were Seb, Reggie and (possibly) Jake plus the young striker who looked a bit like Luke Coleman who scored twice and finally a young tallish midfielder who I'd guess was from the reserves.

From the starting line up I didn't know the keeper but apparently he'd played for our reserves before and there was a bloke on the left wing who didn't seem to speak English. No idea who he was.

Yes, the star was the number 15 (Seb or Sam?) Very quick and full of confidence and tricks. The guy who got two goals was referred to as 'Frank'. The guy who played on the right first half appeared to be French and wore a white beret (not during the game obviously). He wanted a lift to the station at half-time and looked like he was off to Gatwick!

See another goalkeeper brought in for the friendly, how long is it going to be before another excellent young talent (Matt Bowles) will sit on the bench, only given half the game the Tuesday night. Will this be another excellent talent Margate let go? I know Ramsgate have already started making enquires about him and Aaron.

Matt did make the one mistake but, to me one of is greatest strenghts is is his throw. Nice and long and accurate as well if used properly it can set up an immediate counter attack.

As for the trialists (because that is all they were) the goalie and the white beret frenchie I do not think we will see again but, the goalscorer and right sided player I hope we do.

One of my favorite comments from that night was Skinns telling Yanni 'No need to hurry back Yanni this bloke on the right is good'.
