Winchester On Saturday

Dave re-joined Uxbridge following a seven day approach and decided to return to the Reds.

In defence of Dave, his preferred position was 'in the hole' behind the front two and did look like a decent player in that position. Against AFC Hayes, he was the one still chasing down as they cut through us at the end and was effectively covering the centre back position, through no fault of his own.

The key is getting a consistent team out there. Fielding different line-ups every game is no good. I'd love to see Lee Rendell back - any chance of him returning?

It also dawned on me earlier that, though I'm not his biggest fan, we might just be missing Lee Charles. Doesn't score many, and was very frustrating at times, but he was good at holding the ball up and bringing others into play. Jermaine was quite isolated up front on Saturday.

We had our best spell in this league when we had a consistent side which was:

Gk; Barnard

RWB: Janes

LWB: Rendell

CB: Daly

SW: Conor

CB: Harper

DM: M Nsubuga

MF: Riddell

AM: A Nsubuga

FW: Gumbs

FW: Charles

...and we looked good with that side.

I'm with Matt, if I was Betts i'd be straight on the phone to Oxford getting Rendell back. He's easily the best left wing back we've had since Haddow (and I include Woody in that). John Gray does a job there, and is good going forward, but lacks defensively to be a wing-back in my opinion as he leaves Harper exposed at times (not his fault, he's attack minded)

I'd also like to see Janes back, but if not it would be great if we could get Josias in as Betts clearly does not seem to fancy Robinson in that position. From looking at Hibbs he looked out of position there Saturday.

We looked really good with the two Oxford boys

In midfield I think were fairly sorted defensively picking from Ridds, Brown and Meddie, but then there is the attacking midfield role. I'm not Abby's biggest fan, but he does score goals and in my opinion plays much better as an attacking midfielder than a central striker. Or alternatively you could play Dave Barratt in that position.

Then up front I like Jermaine, but I don't think him and Terry will work well as a partnership as they are both too similar, and Terry will get the nod as he scores more goals. Charles is injured so that's a no go and Enrico and Landy are there one week, and gone the next! As i'd said for weeks were desperate for a targetman that's over 6 foot, and the sooner we get one the better!

I agree with some of the coments about formations and player selections, so will be interesting to see the interview... if we are struggling formation wise and performances have been poor is it betsy who is deciding the team and tactics?? I wonder what imput barnie has or the new coach?? He has his coaching badges i seem to have read i wonder what he is doing on the training field because it doesnt look like there is any change at the moment, prehaps he needs to re look at his coaching manuals again see if there is a secret formular he has over looked that could get us some points!

I have faith in the current management give them time 11 games is a long time....

I agree we look far more professional in the pre match warm up, he is the only one i can hear from the bench talking any sense sometimes and from speaking to some of the players after the Farnbourgh game they say that training is very good and they hold calvin in high regard, lets hope his experience of the southern league can get us out of this mess, he would then prove to be betsy's best signing to date then!

Lets all be positive! no talk of the R word until the end of the season!!!
