MFC vs Hastings - live commentary .......

Well and truly banana skinned today. Didn't do enough to win against a very mediocre Hastings side. Scott needs to brush up on his punching of the ball.On one occasion he punched when unecessary(no-one near him)& got no distance on it at all.The catch was by far the easier option. Similarly with his second (though this time he WAS under pressure). Again a terrible clearance & I believe it led to their second goal.

He may be a cracking shot stopper but theres other parts of his game that still needs brushing up on. Scott could become real good if he worked on these things in training.

Ryan Martin,a very clever player but all too often he takes a touch too much.On two occasions that I noted he did all the skilful work, waltzed past two defenders, got into position to shoot at goal,(occupied only by the keeper),but decided to take that extra touch. Shoot earlier Ryan for heavens sake shoot EARLIER!

McKimm, poor game.I expect a lot lot more from him in midfield.

Peters very good all over the park but even HE misplaced some passes today,as did many others. Solely because of that reason Ryan P. dosent get my vote for M.O.T.M. That goes to Mark Goodfellow who has a great skill of getting in on the ball first from behind. Very consistent & strong today I thought.

All the others were below form today & as a unit didn't gel as well as we have seen lately.

Okay we got beat & Hastings deserve much credit for hitting two goals out of about 6 chances all game & coming back to win.

Our goal by Pinns was super but we created only 7 chances ourselves yet had most of the possession & played the better football for most of the game.We just need to be more ruthless & direct in front of goal than we were today.

Did the players take this game too lightly? Were the players in the right frame of mind before the game?. Did they underestimate Hastings?.I think to some extent they might well have done.

Margate, you are so much better than this!

As mentioned elsewhere we get a much better crowd along & as usual the team underperform.

Back to the 300's next home game if we are lucky. What a shame!

A win against the Angels will be even more important now than was previous.

Tonbridge beware,as you may feel the backlash from this next week.

Trotty, you have work to to this week.

To put it politely, that was the worst performance I have seen by the Gate for some time, the only players imo who where faultless are,Peters,Goodfellow,Saunders and Pinns, the rest played like a Sunday morning pub team and should be ashamed and as for the keeper, well he could not hold a conversion today, all in all a BAD day, lets hope it can only get better,it cant get worst....CAN IT?????????.

First time I have seen Goodfellow and I like him. Superb presence about him. Glad Jake got a run out even if it was not for long. He can clearly do a better job than Smithy. It is very apparent that SCS has lost all confidence in his game. Scott needs a good game to get that back but should be catching half of those crosses.

All in all not a good game today against a physical side that put some good game play together. We gave the ball away far too cheeply!

Was a poor game but I am sure the lads will be up for the challenge of the Angels game. Bit unfair Paul to say Scott needs a good game under him as he was MOM for Carshalton game and kept a clean sheet at Boreham Wood.

Poor all-round on Saturday for me, except for our two full-backs. Peters has bundles of energy, gets up and down the pitch all day and can defend exceptionally well (especially taking into account he's not a defender!). Joseph looked very solid as well for me and, for the main, kept their decent no. 7 under wraps.

I certainly feel that an air of complacency crept into our game. Perhaps us fans were guilty of it too. We all just expected to simply turn up and win on Saturday.. And we were taught a harsh lesson; Hastings fully deserved the three points.

More worryingly for me is how poor in attack we looked as soon as Haworth came off. Does not bode well for next week. As I said before, I thought the playoffs were a push too far for us this season and, with other results going the way they did, I stick by that earlier prediction.

C'est la vie. Roll on next week...
