are we now doomed

No doubt yesterday was a big kick in the balls, but Bracknell need to travel to Newport this midweek and a win there is not guaranteed. Bracknell may be unable to call upon key players for example, and Newport gained a confidence-boosting 0-0 draw yesterday. Now that's clutching at straws!

Yesterday was not good enough.

I am sure all of the Slough fans, and what a tremendous turnout it was, went with great expectations only to be badly let down. It was not the game to introduce so many new players and was no surprise that the team looked disjointed and out of sorts. Barnery and Betts made a mistake on this.

That being said too many of the players couldn't even pass the ball properly; how many time did we see the ball sliced off the pitch. With the new signings in the team the experienced ones should have stepped up but they were woeful. It was the first time that I've thought that Barney looked dodgy but yesterday he did. He definitely had an off day.

There can be no excuse for the players arguing amongst themsleves but we saw it more than once. Betts and Barney have to get a grip on this and Barney should be leading by example not joining in. We should be thankful that our captain tried to sort things out on the pitch and despite his bad tackle that should have got him sent off we are lucky to have him. Along with Terry Davies I'd say he was the only one that played throughout with passion and committment. Why is it that virtually every game he has to bust his nuts trying to lift some of the others.

It was said in Bracknell's programme, by their Secretary that "we should have enough in the locker to avoid relegation". That's certainly true and I'd still say we are a better team than Bracknell but not if we play like that. Betts and Barney need to get the team playing for 90 minutes like they did when they were first put in charge. Do this and we will avoid the drop.

Disagree if you like but I came away pissed off and had to have a rant.

I would agree with the vast majority of that. Trying to look at the positives I would also agree with your praise of Riddell. He really is a credit to the club and thoroughly deserves the captaincy. He always impresses me with his never say die attitude and his obvious passion and desire to win. I noticed on Saturday that after the final whistle very few of the fans clapped the players off which in the circumstances was understandable. But I noticed Lee clapping the supporters and trying to encourage us as we walked around to make our exit. I for one appreciated that.

And also while Abbey made a mistake that cost us a vital goal his reaction was not of someone who couldn't care less. He wanted the ground to open up. He was clearly affected by that and at least that shows he wants to do well.

I think with Brian to come back and slot into the back, Riddell in midfield and someone to play left wing back to allow Thomas to also play in midfield we would have a much more balanced side.

I also think we caught Bracknell on a bad day. New management so everyone wanted to impress. Playing for their postions etc. Better things to come from us with a bt of luck.

Firstly as you know I never come on here and critisize any of our players BUT I feel very strongly about this and have to say I agree with Marcus and Budman. What Barney did on Saturday was absolutely dreadful. I can appreciate that players get frustated and angry but as said before Abbey looked absolutely mortified and having your goalkeeper come rushing at you like that will do nothing to help the situation. Perhaps he needs to look at his captain and take notice of the way Lee is alway geeing up and getting behind the players. I for one hope to never see that sort of thing again.

As much as I do not agree with what Barnard did, we must all realise that this was probably a moment of madness, he is usually a very passionate member of the squad, and usually conducts himself quite professionally. It was an honest mistake from Abby, and he seemed gutted to have made it.

I would not like to see it happen again, but i think it was probably a heat of the moment thing. As the assistant manager AND the goalkeeper (who has saved us from many a heavy defeat this season) he is under pressure and in a crucial game like on Saturday the pressure is even greater.

The moral in the squad is at it's highest that I have seen for ages, the way the players celebrated the goal on Saturday showed that, we need to make sure it stays that way.

We now need to put this behind us, and hopefully the players will do too and look forward to the next match.

i think it was just the fact it left Barney so lumbered and every player gets angry at some point. the fact it was a 50 yard run to moan meant it looked really bad. i think in a way it shows how much some of the players care about staying up. as said above you cant say Abby wasnt mortified at his mistake. the fans and the players have to just forget it and let him get on with his game starting saturday.

it was just too many players out of position really that was our undoing. also how comes we didnt bring a striker on when it was obvious Hunte/Holte whatever one it was and Davies wasnt working together

Firstly just wanted to say a quick thanks to the supporters who were having friendly banter with me on Saturday despite the fact that I was in opposition colours! You guys are a massive credit to the club.

Secondly I would just say that I really hope and truely believe Slough will be fine and stay up. If you look at the league a few teams are being pulled into the situation and I know Betts has enough about him to ensure you get the points that are required. I think that we're showing at the moment that if you're organised and work hard in this league you can pick up points against almost any side.

Good luck once again.

Big Positive to come out of the Game on Saturday was David Barratt. Although I Didnt recognise Him at first with His new Hair! He has been Injured for a little while now so it was great to see Him come on, the lad really ouzes that special touch We need and If We are gonna stay up We need Him desperatly to get back to the form He was producing before His injury (Uxbridge Away comes to Mind).

Bettsy and Barny will put things right, lots of games left to earn vital points. Credit to the support saturday and up the rebels!

i might be in a minority but i dont think barnard was that out of order, when it comes to the end of the season wirh the threat of relegation looming mistakes can be costly, Abby is man enough to take it,Barnard really cares and is passionate about staying up, you would excpect the manager and assistant manager to get angry over costly mistakes,we cant afford another relegation,

if players feelings are hurt then they should grow up and learn from them.

On the flip side I kinda think it shows how much Barney cares as well, so don't be too harsh. We were all gutted and all do things in the heat of the moment. By all accounts Abby was gutted after the game and did not get changed for an hour and a half.

Shame we did not have a game tonight, as I bet the boys are itching to go to get that performance out of their systems.

I agree it is important to talk about these things in an open and honest way so that everyone can have their say and get things off their chest without offending anyone, whilst maintaining their dignity, however there are also times when it is best to say nothing and remain silent on the issue as when you say things you dont know how they are taken and if you said the right thing but at the wrong time, or the wrong thing but at the right time, or possibly the right thing at the right time, or even the wrong thing at the wrong time; some people say it is best to get things off your chest and open up to everyone your feelings so that a trouble shared is a trouble halved, but at the same time people dont want to hear you going on about all your problems and boring others to deaf with all the issues you have, some say communication is key to resolving problems and without it you would not know where you stand or even sit, but others say silence is golden and that the less said the better, but everyone has the right to have their opinion, as long as that opinion does not offend others, but where do you draw the line with freedom of speech, and this leads to how liberal a state do you have as everyone wants to do what they want but there must be rules to have some order, whilst still ensuring that you can do what you want, the issue with being able to voice an opinion is that other people will disagree and others will agree and some will sit on the fence and some will agree, then disagree, then sit on the fence, and then change thir mind again; some people will say look at the past to see the future, and others that you have to go forward and forget about the past, there is however a group who will look back at history for direction yet strive for new idears, as Winston Churchill said "this is not the begining of the end, it is not even the end of the begining, but this is another fine mess you have got me in Stanley", where this leads us to is an issue that is even bigger than the meaning of life and how 42 can be a so definate answer has to be questioned - was it in fact 41.97 and someone just rounded it up or was it something bigger than that such as 42.01798 which was rounded down, these questions are sent to challenge us and make us strive for the unknown issues of this world, such as why do women have smaller feet than men? is it just so that they can get closer to the sink? or why do telephone dials have 1, 2, 3 in the top line, but calculators and computers have a number pad with 1, 2, 3 on the bottom? One of the great unknowns must also be did Tony Boot ever understand the offside rule or was it all the linesmen who had that page missing from their rule book? the ultimate question in the world at the momment is surley "are we now doomed?" and I do have the answer to this you will be glad to hear and that is we are doomed if we end up in 21st place and 2 clubs are relegated from this league!
