My first team selection

Cool, they're letting us make our team selections starting this weekend (nifty Team Selector on the website - play any player in any position, etc). Your manager doesn't officially have to play the team we tell him to until March, so plenty of time for us to practice. My idea - since I don't know any of the players or their positions etc - is to pick a line-up with commercial possibilities (ie to raise sponsorship money to get us some of our £35s back). Here's my first attempt (my team for this weekend's game)...

What I've done - and I think this is nothing short of genius - is picked a defence all of whom have first names beginning with S, a midfield whose names begin with L and forwards beginning with P. That's SLP, or South London Press, a newspaper that may want to expand its distribution into the Ebbsfleet/North Kent area. The goalie is some guy called Nade as that sounds a bit like 'need'. Hence the whole formation is saying 'need SLP' ie you (the consumer) need to buy the South London Press. I'm sure this is the sort of thing that newspaper's publishers would be interested in paying for. Effectively the 'you need the SLP' message would stare out from the team line-up sections of every media outlet that carries a match report of the game.

Not sure how many other MyFC members I can turn onto the idea of 'selling' team line-ups as advertising, but there's a lot of sound financial reasoning behind it, so I'll give it my best shot. Any ideas of any other line-ups that would work in similar commercial/promotional ways? I wanted to do one where the outfield players spelled out Burger King, but even with surnames your squad doesn't have players with all the letters needed and it may be too late to sign the missing ones in the January window.

Plus I quite like the idea of Mott and Cronin outfield - always good to have two players who are allowed to handle it further up the pitch so they can throw into the box for big lads like Starkey and regular goalscorers like Hawkins to get on the end of.

Well done the clown!

if you stepped back a little and stop chomping and choking over his posts he is actually quite a good contributer to the brave new fleet forum in a tongue in cheek way...now come on..admit it.... grin

As you say "each to his own" - trolls work on different levels, this was just too obvious, could have really hooked everyone by just putting 2 or 3 players out of position...
