Asa's Aces win yet again

With a changed lineup from that which gained 3 points at Wodson Park last Thursday, the Asa Band Wagon rolls on, this time in the Semi Final of the President's Cup with a 1-0 victory over a rather youthful Ware team who to be fair never gave in to the mighty Urchins.

A first half in which our lads could have scored on several occasions finished scoreless but on a sticky but well playable surface we went in at nil nil.

Tommo and John Mackie rested for the second half brought on 2 more youngsters to join the happy band but the game turned some 10 minutes or so into this period, when, Frankie Curley, playing at the back, was adjudged to foul the home man who would have been through on goal. A fair decision really, but not on the ethics of the Capital League as the ref had not shown any cards up to that point and so maybe there would have been other ways in which to deal with the situation. The resultant free kick came to nothing and this inspired our lads with Ross Wall netting our winner after being put through on a one on one with only the home keeper to beat.

The ref was obviously affected by all this and many decisions were touch and go but, despite some late pressure by Ware, we survived and nearly went 2 up through Perry Burns near the end.

A big well done to all, especially a youthful Asa Pamplin, who came on for the last 20 minutes, a class act!

Thanks to Michael and the rest of the travelling Urchins and also to our usual hospitable hosts.
