Leigh RMI, one of MyFC's other potential clubs?

nice ground as well but my recollection is that it was either fully or part council owned and shared by the two clubs...of course rugby league is the sport around those parts (my 2nd wife was from leigh)...can't recall the rmi bit over there but think it was probably the name of the local pit miners institute

lovely flat cap and whippet stuff...there's another one as well in horwich near the reebok..that is the railway mechanics institute

Mornin' Unc,

It's the latter..the railway mechanics institute.

The Hilton Park Stadium was purchased from the Receivers and agreement was reached for the playing of both Association Football and Rugby League on a ground share basis. With a 10,000 capacity it became the Club's new home towards the end of season 1994/95 with Grundy Hill becoming a site for new homes.

cheers wagga/david..I went to a couple of weddings a good while back at the leigh RMI which was the social club for the two leigh colleries etc which were closed in the 80's I think..I thought it was related to that as I am sure it was called the RMI even back then..

of course Leigh is known for the beauty of its women (and I am serious as well) never seen a rough one yet...mind you the one I married was bloody expensive... frown

laugh

Beautiful new stadium.

The reason they were rejected by MyFC appears to be the fact that Leigh RMI have no guarantees that they will be allowed to use the stadium by the local council. Apparently the council are trying to get another club into the stadium (FCUM?).

I know for a fact that FCUM will NOT be using that stadium as their home.

Heard that too - but shows the council's thinking - they are not interested in the couple of hundred RMI get to home games. Commercialism rather than community support for sports seems to prevail.
