Those squad numbers were wrong, sorry, just back from game:-

El Salvador got an early goal which will have settled any nerves they may have felt... and went on to win 12-0.

here are the Anguillans warming up

and lining up for the anthems:-

It was difficult for me to know who was who, because the squad numbers published here seem to be wholly different to the ones they wore, as shown here . I felt that Leon Jeffers and Robert Paris looked most composed on the ball, but Jeffers had to go off with a nasty knock. Roy Gumbs also got a knock on the head, him (and Alfredo Pacheco, ES capt) having to wear head-bandages in the second half.

Gumbs had Anguilla's best chance, very late on, he read weel and intercepted a ball beautifully on the edge of the box (in a play which will surely concern De Los Cobos), the keeper was out of position and an immediate shot to the far post would probably have gone in, but he chose to run with it. Those names all depend on the numbers being correct on that webpage - will check the paper tomorrow.

The start of the second half also saw an early goal, but Anguilla had a bit more of it as they pushed up more and employed the off-side trap effectively ... the only problem being when it was beaten there was a goal.

It was a good crowd in the end, many turning up late (FESFUT had said there was NO WAY they would sell tickets on the day at the ground, as Roberto Calvo said it two weeks ago, I thought... yes you will... and they did, but very badly, very slowly...), so will have been a great experience, and I think they did give a good account of themselves (I remember Conner -or Jeffers, sorry - takiing the ball of El Salvador's best player Cheyo Quintanilla once, like he was taking sweeties off a baby), but I must say Mr Carty did not look like he was enjoying it too much from about the 3rd goal onwards...

I will keep a look out for more photos tomorrow

It was Emerson Umaña's first goal for his country, but I did feel that some of the later celebrations were a bit unnecessary, still, they were excited, I suppose.

My report at my blog is up now, this is just notes , download the podcast for the report (which I just noticed I forgot to say the final score!)

Their names are now up on the official FIFA World Cup 2010 website now, which can't be bad!

re - above.

That was me, sorry. Also forgot to say the podcast is free, and also THANKS very much everyone here for helping me with all the info etc on the UK based Anguillan players ... hope the season goes well for Slough Town.

I will pop back in March, hopefully the away game will be on telly here, as we see a shock 13-0 victory for Anguilla!!
