Anguilla National Team Call Ups

according the Slough Observer we will be missing Brian Connor and Jermaine Gumbs (sp?) as well as Rommell for their world cup qualifier

good luck to them first of all but what is people's thoughts on the fact they will miss 3 games including Bracknell next week? could this cost us dearly? Betts says that he has cover in place to bring in including 2 strikers and a midfielder or 2 so should be alright but could it be World Cup Qualifiers plays a big factor in relegation?

Be interesting to see what the rules are on cancelling a fixture due to international call-ups, how impressive would that be??!! We'd definitely miss Connor, Jermaine hasn't been performing too great recently but is our 3rd top scorer. Rommell won't be missed, purely because he's not a first team regular.

lol Nsubuga Land??

maybe we could look into cancelling the game although premiership sides have to go on without their africans at the moment

as i say Bettsy says he has at least 3 new players coming in and also he mentioned if he and barney got the job they will want the loan/dual registration players to choose whether they want to play for slough or their other club

looking at the uganda team of may 2007 there is a Mohammed Nsubuga in their squad. also looking quickly at the teams some of the players play for its a possible our 2 Nsubugas could be called up to their national side but if they was called up it wouldnt be for the nations cup as previously said

Until yesterday, the Anguillan FA had asked us not to publicise any of the players call ups, so whilst we have known for some time, we've not been able to say anything.

Firstly, congratulations to all three of our players who have been called up. To represent a nation is a fantastic achievement and best of luck to them all.

We had enquired with the league regarding calling off the game on the 26th and we would have had to write in to the league with the full details. Having discussed it further with Mark, he is happy that we will have a good squad that day and will be in search of the three points in the clash against Bracknell and subsequent matches.

I have not heard anything regarding Meddie and Abby as yet regarding any potential call ups.

According to the FIFA website, Anguilla have an away game against El Salvador on February 6th, part of the World Cup Qualifiers. There is a return game on March 26th with the winner playing Panama in June.

They are ranked joint 198th in the world rankings, (just one place behind San Marino!).

'However, if the preliminary first round of qualifying for the 2007 Caribbean Cup of Nations is anything to go by, Anguilla are in for a tough slog. They lost three straight matches to Antigua and Barbuda (6-1), Barbados (7-1) and St. Kitts and Nevis (5-3), conceding 18 goals and scoring five.'

Sounds like us last season tongue

The quality of players they are calling up now are of a better quality than historically, or so they feel, which is why they took the hush hush approach for as long as possible so as not to alert El Salvador of the better quality they are bringing.

i imagine they probably used to call up players that were playing mostly if not all in Anguilla so the new guys should help them out quite well. good luck to them. great experience it will be in the away leg which should be in front of tens of thousands of fans i heard

Thankfully Uganda are not playing again until the end of May in a World Cup Qualifier against Niger so there is little chance of us losing them in the foreseeable future.

How great would it have been if we'd managed to get a game called off due to international calls ups?

could be a good idea really. surely would be worth contacting both shows see if they would have any interest in this great story. im sure they would if the story revolved around Anguilla more than just slough solely

I did a bit of Googling on Meddie Nsubuga when he joined. I vaguely remember Wealdstone signed him a few seasons ago and they'd mentioned he'd played regularly for Uganda. Lots of articles out there about internationals he's played in, here's one about him playing against Everton's Steven Pienaar in 2004

Not so sure about Abby Nsubuga though. As far as I know he has not been capped. Also as others have said, Uganda's next game is in May so call-ups would affect us next season.

I would like to add my congratulations to the three heading off to San Salvador and Anguilla in the coming weeks. It's a great achievement to play in an international match at any level, especially for someone like Brian Connor to make his debut at the age of 38, and I think it's very exciting for our club. I hope they can do themselves proud, and we can find replacements for the games they miss!

this link seems to suggest he played for Santa FC in the Argentina 2nd Div a few others say he played for other Argentina teams (if same person of course)

also this is the strangest page i may have ever seen especially confused as it says Meddie and Jermaine Gumms on it:http://th.yellojobs.com/blog/formgreento/2008/01/12/led-aquinas-to-a-share-of-its-second-straight-boys-section-v-class-aa-title/
