Rise Of The Idiots

It's a fait accompli, I'm afraid. I have voted NO to the takeover as I said I would (sorry I haven't been on in several weeks - my computer died and I was too skint to get a new one until now). Sadly the MyFC politbureau are creating a situation where no is not an option. Their email to us members has a "click here to vote in favour of the takeover" button but no click no button and any threads in the MyFC forums questioning the deal are swiftly deleted. It's quite farcical that a takeover originally presented as one with minimal debts suddenly reveals the football club is losing 400k per annum but refuses to explain how or why, and only serves to load on more debt (if the idiots that form the majority of MyFC approve the deal, they are committing to paying approx £1m in training ground hire to Fleet Leisure plus £40k a year to consultants). Hopefully sense will out but I fear not. Here is a barometer of the sort of numpty that has signed up to MyFC (this posted today on the main takeover thread on MyFC):

"Im confused. Does this mean if the deal goes ahead, all that has signed up with myfootball club will automatically have their £35 going to ebbsfeet? I want my money to go to Bury not anyone else! and will this hinder my chances of wanting to be part of the take over for Bury if the ebbsfeet deal goes through? I havent been able to go onto the forum so im just a little confused at present."

MyFC is a confidence trick on a par with mybitofthepitch.com yet unlike the latter the former seems to have parted plenty of idiots from their money. Ebbsfleet/G&N can't lose, the only people who will lose are the idiots paying into MyFC thinking they are getting something in return. You have become the Soho clip joint of football. I know it wasn't your choice but I truly hope you're not proud :((((

Yeah, a well written rant there.... (cue sarcasm detector)

Just because there are a few numpty's on that site doesn't mean everyone went in with their eyes closed. You used one example to represent one of thousands of members. Nice one knob-end.

Most of us knew what we were paying our 35 quid for and are happy with the way things are going.

The deletion of post opposing the deal baffle me, it is supposed to be a democracy, but then so was Rome. However MyFC wanting to push the deal as much as possible does not surprise me. It is becoming more obvious to the people of the deluded world of MyFC that things will not be so rosy in the garden as they first thought. Why are the details of DD not being released? Because they are not allowed. Most of us knew this months ago but others feel aggrieved.

£350,000, not 400,000 as you say, is being lost "at the moment". This can change, it can go up it can go down but I think, and hope, that the people of MyFC are beginning to realise that running a team in this league will not cost a couple of hundred pounds a year as they first thought.

I thought the hire of FL was £48,000 a year? Have I missed something?

You signed up, are you proud or guilty knowing it's partly your fault? Personally I would do anything to save the club. How true the debt is though is another matter. Anyway can you not play on the heart strings of the fans. Most Fleet fans don't want this but those that do are not wrong. This is an exciting venture and some will say the club is in better hands then it has been for many a year.

Well balanced post Harry...unlike some. I spent a couple of hours on the site last night trawling through the deal and also reading quite a few threads that gave justification from some posters why they would be voting no - didn't see too much evidence of thread removal. Also Members were encouraged to read the details of the deal before making thier choice. When it came to voting it was a clear yes or no choice which made sense. Those of us who have watched events unravel over the past couple of months are more and more aware of what Ebbsfleet are about and what we may be able to achieve. If nothing else, since November Ebbsfleet have been brought to the attention of football supporters worldwide and for those of us lucky to be within striking distance of the ground the opportunity of making acquaintances first hand. I've been supporting Norwich City for the last 43 years and have had many ups and downs (probably more downs than ups!) so I'm under no illusion as to what can happen at a football club. Norwich have, however, throughout everything maintained a tremendous fan base (only second to Sheff Utd in the Championship and better than half a dozen Prem sides). If to some degreee, we can put The Fleet into the mindset of the local community to a similar degree, then I feel that we would have achieved something. For now, I'm looking forward to my first visit for the game against Burton Albion and, to be honest, I haven't felt so excited about going to a game for ages even if only to actually meet face to face the worthy souls that inhabit this forum and the wide bunch of hopefuls that are the committed face of MyFC.

Why should we take what you say seriously when you deliberately distort the truth?

Sure, the email advises voting "Yes" & says "Click here to vote in favour of the takeover," but having clicked, you are taken to a place where there are 2 votes (1 on accepting the deal & 1 on freeing up Liam to extend contracts & deal inside the transfer window.) For both these votes there is a "Yes" & "No" button. I double checked that I'd clicked the right button before submitting my vote &, yes, I voted "Yes" to both.

As for threads within the forums questioning the deal being swiftly deleted, not so. Some threads have been deleted so people do not waste their time & website capacity discussing things which are no longer an option - this was openly flagged up in yesterday's statement: "It's important that when members discuss the proposed takeover of the Club, the debate focuses on whether Ebbsfleet is the right club at the right price, not whether the price could be improved or the deal structured differently. The Society has paid a considerable sum for financial and legal due diligence and for DLA Piper to agree a structure for the deal. This is the only deal on the table, and it can't be changed.

The Forum Team has therefore been asked to close threads which become wholly focussed on the deal's structure, and whether the deal could have been structured differently, particularly where those threads are inaccurate or misleading."

So I am a "numpty" that has fallen for "a confidence trick" according to you. Maybe so, but any casual trawling of the forum will reveal to anyone, with their eyes open & unmisted by prejudice, that for every intellectually challenged MyFC member there are 50 genuine football fans with fully functioning brain cells.

ha ha...great stuff harry keep up the abuse son...it does you much justice...

now then..facts harry facts...you can shoot negative posters down all you like from behind your keyboard whilst safely tucked away in your little bedroom with liam daish posters and artists impressions of the new ebbsfleet station all around you and your paddington bear sitting on your pillow wondering what all the fuss is about as his master sells his footbll club down the river but what you cannot do with your transparently and naively written words is hide the truth...here it is...

the club is in debt to the tune of nearly a million pounds (don't bother apologising)

it is losing 40 grand a month

you are misleading others by saying that the publication of DD is not allowed..who is not allowing it as there is certainly no law to prevent it...of course it is allowed it just doesn't suit those with their own agenda..

why can members not vote NO...

why are there now severe restrictions on the topics allowed on a supposedly democratic and member funded website forum..

do the members know that the lawyers and accountants will be paid in excess of 200k of their money for a DD exercise that should have cost 40k...?

facts harry..facts...they are boring and repetitious I know and that is because they don't change..they are consistent regardless of your desperate spin....

now you may be okay with yourself in selling your footie club down the river in desperation and you may be okay with yourself for trying to hoodwink and bully those that oppose your uneducated views but what about little old paddington sitting there trustingly gazing at you from the pillow....surely he deserves better...!!

all together now...heads in sand...

For somebody who I guess excedes my own half century of existence on planet earth, you can still dish out the playground level disrespect with the best of them, my dear uncle. Though Harry has over 2 decades less experience, I would guess he is man enough not to be provoked by your Paddington Bear wind up.

As for your so called facts, you know as well as the rest of us that you have wilfully distorted the material:

"The club is in debt to the tune of nearly a million pounds (don't bother apologising)"

Hmmm! Can we see your additions please.

"It is losing 40 grand a month."

Really? "Prior to takeover, the monthly trading losses of the Club (without any additional income) were somewhere between GBP26,000 and GBP28,000 (on the assumption that the Club loses every cup game)."

"Why can members not vote NO?"

They can!!!! Read the article, then click on the vote link. Plain as the nose on your face: Yes & No buttons.

"Why are there now severe restrictions on the topics allowed on a supposedly democratic and member funded website forum?"

Not the case: "It's important that when members discuss the proposed takeover of the Club, the debate focuses on whether Ebbsfleet is the right club at the right price, not whether the price could be improved or the deal structured differently. The Society has paid a considerable sum for financial and legal due diligence and for DLA Piper to agree a structure for the deal. This is the only deal on the table, and it can't be changed.

Where do you gett 200k from?

Heheh, quality rant. Did you break many toys as you hurled them out of the pram?

I like the way we're all culpable for the situation as you see it, and it's got nothing to do with you joining up. I've got absolutely nothing to be proud or not proud about.

as a schoolteacher mr genius I would guess you know the difference between abuse and irony but then again seeing some of the rif raf coming out of our schools these days perhaps not.... grin

the facts I state are correct..I just know these things as do others as well advised as I... but as I said....heads in sand and quick...you wouldn't want to have to face reality now would you.... oh and whilst I am posting here's another question...

given that the articles of the provident society prohibit the creation of debt could you please advise me how the 40 grand a month losses are to be immediately stopped to avoid such a breach of regulations...?

thanx..

No you haven't Harry - £48,000 per year for 13 years and then dropping to £8,000 in year 14. Total lease is 25 years.

The £40,000 consultancy fee to the Development company is a capped figure - it could be less - and is for three years with a year-on-year review to allow an opt-out.

Admittedly, I've not read the DD report as yet but a number of questions immediately spring to mind:

a) Why are MYFC paying £48,000 for the use of Fleet Leisure?

Is the Football Club currently paying anywhere near this figure for the use of these facilities? If no, why are MYFC paying this figure?

B) Where is the £48,000 going once its paid to Fleet Leisure? Are the major "B" and "C" shareholders the main beneficiaries?

c) Who does the Development Company that the £40,000 consultancy fee to be paid too comprise of?

This represents an annual cost to MYFC of not far short of 100K.

C'mon Unc...don't resort to 'teacher bashing'...you can do better than that.
Then again with a moniker like Unrecognized Genius you are asking for it.
I've been teaching for 26 years and I'll have you know that both rif and raf aren't new on the scene...I've just had a look at my high school reports!
Pretty sure your Teddy Bear references are neither abuse nor irony but is in fact lampoonery.(Top word that!) smile

Where abouts is that post?

£40k (not subject to interest) for 13 years PLUS £8k (rising with Retail Price Interest) for 25 years, ergo total commitment of £520k + £200k + interest. My million quid was a bit high (rounding up and all that) but £800k is a reasonable figure. Yes, that's over many years, but it is a financial commitment that is being made.

The post from the Bury fan is a response to the original posting of the details of the deal on the MyFC website. Interestingly there is a Report This Post button under each reply, and of the several hundred replies only four or five (like the Bury one) are critical. Yes, you guessed it, those four or five posts (and those only) all have a big red 'Reported' flag under them. Even the ordinary MyFC members appear to be acting like Eastern Europe secret police, lining up to 'report' anyone not following the VOTE YES party line. It sickens me to my stomach.

ha ha...wotcha waggawagga...I saw the irony in harry's recent penchant for abusing anyone opposing the current MyFc lack of transparency after his intial veciferous opposition to the transaction......I then got to thinking about poor little paddington and...well....... grin

lampoonery is an excellent word.. applause2 and with your permission I shall add it to my forum repertoire... laugh

Although I do have some questions.

It is not Paddington Bear, it is Stan from South Park and leave him alone, he's sick.

Hmm... funny that as what less then two months ago you stated hat the debt was £600,000. Now if we really were losing £40,000 that would be £40,000 for November, £40,000 for December, £40,000 for January plus the £600,000 for the debt we already had that’s.... £720,000.... Where do you get £1,000,000 from?

Okay so I'll give you the fact that perhaps you got the figure wrong the first time. £1,000,000? We're not in debt to banks of mortgage lenders we're in fact in debt to the club's current directors, where would they get £1,000,000 from? Yeah right, they wish! So they're millionaires, why do they still live in Gravesend? Should they not have moved to Hornchurch and got some double….

Sorry I wont.

I'm not going to fool people by saying I know the extent of the debt, I just know you don't.

And how do you work out that we're losing £40,000 a month? Are the players getting limos to games? Expenditure would have to be far greater than this to take into account income as well.

So what would you have me do? You say we're £1,000,000 in debt, or has it risen to £2,000,000 in the last couple of hours, but that I shouldn't accept the MyFC deal. You want us to end up like your lot don't you?

FL is not part of the purchase agreement. As such if the club didn't pay rent to FL it would have to pay someone else.

I suspect it will contribute to reducing the ongoing losses.

don't know - maybe a company search is required - but I suspect it includes the existing directors who have been involved in the project to find a new stadium so far. Also the actual figure is £135 per hour with a cap of £40,000 and a year-on-year review.

Ironically, my choice of moniker was initially ironic. My original avatar was a well known, large boned inhabitant of South Park, who still retains a residual presence in my signature. Not very mature or befitting my professional status, I know, but I have always felt that most teachers (myself included) can only stand the job, because they have never properly grown up. (My wife reckons that's true of the entire male side of the species.) Y'know what? I might even do away with the cyberspace spirit & return to my original form. That way I cannot be accused of having an over-inflated opinion of myself.

I also had a few reposts for our avuncular friend:

Dear Unc

Impressed by your remembering what I do to earn my daily crust. However, in my professional opinion, your Paddington Bear allegory lacks the subtlety required of true irony, which needs to be a bit more than just taking the p*ss. My colleague from Wagga Wagga has a much better memory for terminology than me: lampoonery, it is, indeed.

You say that we have to take your word that you, along with other well informed people, have the true facts. We might be more inclined to take this at face value if you didn't so transparently misrepresent other things (eg there being no opportunity to vote "no" & forum threads being removed simply because they upset the Politburo.)

As for operating in debt, this has been discussed elsewhere & the requirement is that MyFC cannot allow the club to be run with unmanageable debt. I am sure you will disagree with the reasoning, but yesterday's statement went out of its way to show how the debt would be managed, reduced & removed, in stages at least until the end of January 2009, when memberships come up for renewal & then outlined what needed to be done to ensure that the club would operate without building debt from that point on.

Have to go & meet a naughty boy's mummy now, so signing off in haste.
