I'm bored

Looking at the current position in the league I was wondering if we have any chance of making the playoffs. A few weeks ago I stated that I believed we were too far behind to make it. I still believe that we have too much to do but thought I would see where we stood at the same time last season. It didn't look too good until you see what we did after that. After 25 matches this season we have 35 points, which is 15 points less than last season when we stood on 50. Thats not good. However we then went on that disastrous run of collecting just 7 points in 9 matches from a total of 27 giving us 57 after 34 matches. Therefore to equal that total we will have to win 7 out of the next 9 matches, which with the players we have coming back is not impossible. Looking at the fixtures, we have two of the top teams and one of those is Staines at home, and with our home record it is not unfeasible to obtain. Therefore chins up and lets get supporting the boys.

You try and be optimistic and 'never say never',but facts are that you normally need 75 points for 5th position.

This season, 71 points may just secure it as there are more teams vying for the slot and taking points off each other.

Thus we need 36 points from 17 games.(12 wins from 17 games or 11 wins,3 draws and just 3 defeats.-too much to expect imo.

Over 2 points per game-title winning form-even when we improve-we are not that good.

Currently, we are winning just over a third of our games. If we win 45% of remaining games;thats 8 wins, draw say 4 games, and lose 5;that gives 28 points for 63 points in total-some way short.

Thus,i just think we have run out of games, and regret the lost opportunities and defensive lapses in first two thirds of season.

Maybe we can do better, but can anyone realistically see us getting two points average per game.

Not a disaster just the same-has conf south got that much going for it-great for me as more games in the south west, but for the club and everyone local-the RYman/Kent league may be good next year with Dover and dartford coming up.

Even if Wimbledon and Chelmsford go up-our crowds should stay the same as Dover and dartford replace those two.

You certainly do not want to hang around in conf south for more than a seasonlow crowds and more travel, and more wages-and we probably are'nt quite ready to go from Ryman to conf national in two seasons.I also reckon that quality of football is similar in most of conf south to the Ryman.

Only problem is-complacency and you can get too used to being in a league.

Still want promotion this year deep down, but its not a disaster if we don't as long as RT is getting the squad together now for next seasons real push.

You never know though-if RT installs that target in the miondset of 12 wins from 17 games;and we win next two on the trott, then 10 wins from 15 looks just a bit easier.

Win three league games on the trott-we need a sequence- and down to 9 wins from 14 games and the dream lives on. !!

Two clean sheets in 25 league games & NO clean sheets in out last 17 matches.Address that situation & who knows where we could end up. Realistically I feel around the 8th or 9th mark is where we will end up with T.O.T.S similarly around the same mark.

Having said that there are still a couple of play-off places up for grabs & there is still a way to go yet,so despite having said the above,I haven't altogether given up hope of achieving that & I won't,we all shouldn't,give up hope of actually getting to those play-offs & getting that promotion.

Thats what we started out to do & thats what we should still be aiming for.

I see the last playoff spot going to either Horsham , Hornchurch, Tots , or Margate . I can`t see Chelmsford , Dons , Stains or even Hendon slipping up , Hendon have just enough points to stay in the top 4 , even if they do slip up but the odd win & draw will keep them there so we have to hope and pray that the squad can pull together stay injury free get no bookings and bans and hope that Horsham , Hornchurch, or the Tots slip up somewhere between now and the end of the season . What would be a great end to the season is MFC beating Ramsgate in the playoff final , now how good would that be . Up the Gate.

Thank you kindly Jake for correcting me on that. Was such a long time ago I had overlooked that one. Anyway, that was my deliberate mistake. What took you so long? wink smile whistle

Okay,ONE clean sheet in 17 & NO clean sheets in the last 9. Hope thats correct this time!

Still a poor defensive record though, don't you agree? Still, maybe we can put this right on Saturday............maybe!

Don't get me started on clean sheets !!

Gave up a few months ago and conceded that maybe we could improve by just letting one in per game-but yes-defence cost us dear in first two thirds of season and now run out of games to recover.

The dream hangs on by a very slender thread-Hamton achieved exactly 35 points from their last 17 games last season !!10 wins,2 defeats,5 draws.

It has been suggested that i am not positive-my point is that its no use just saying 'be positive'-totally meaningless without justification and something actually changing to support the 'be positive clamour'.

However-we have now got changes-an experienced defender, a balanced squad, and fewer injuries-all factors missing in the previous 5 months-so with these changes-i can now be more positive;and just hold on to the dream of a top 5.

(as i suggest in an earlier post though-is promotion to conf south all its cracked up to be anyway -unless you can go straight up to conf national the next season).

Overall, i reckon 7th or 8th is our destiny-at start of season i said 8th-i think now it will be 7th as we are a better side now;and all in all, thats an ok season imo. (not pixxed off as i was by our snatching 6th from the jaws of the championship as occurred last season ) )

Yes,I have to say that on looking in today the pitch looked fine. No water showing on top anywhere & all drained away. Goalmouths drying out well.

All eyes on the weather from now until Saturday. Rain IS forecast I believe.
