Edgware Update

lovely stuff

Recommended Posts

Its all been happening.

1-0 to Town. Deane scored after great run and cross by Kofi.

The ref is Phil Sharp (premier league lino). He turned down two good shouts for Town penalties, before finally giving us one at the third time of asking.Nay hit the post and MISSED the penalty.Edgware were then given a penalty themselves straight after but MISSED their spotkick as well.

ETFC 0 ETFC 1

Foster, Nay, Bastian, Tickner, Harvey, Heald, Jones, Nyamah, Crace, Hammatt, Deane, Velandia, Campbell, Foster Simpson, Grieves

Well if Edgware are top of the table material then it was a bad day at the office for them because once town got their heads in front on the 7th minute with a quality run from Kofi Nyamah down the left wing and crossing to Michael Deane who came at 11o’clock out of the sun to smash it past Blackburne. 0 -1. Bryan Hammatt makes a lovely cross for Ricci Crace to fire past the post. Jamie Nay brought down in the box with the most blatant penalty but the defender does NOT get booked. Jamie Nay steps up and bounces it off the cross bar (Pooh).

At the other end Andre Foster claims the ball well at the feet of the striker and Phil Sharp (Premiership referee being assessed allegedly) blows for penalty and then books Andre one assumes for decent. The penalty is blasted VERY wide. Andre saved again. Michael Deane shot over the bar. Andre Foster saved again. Michael Deane a beautiful dipping shot parried over his bar by Blackburne. End of first half was very satisfying for all town fans.

Second half Edgware have a shot wide. Bryan Hammatt brought down on the edge of the box. Free Kick whistles over and wide. Jamie Nay replaced by Paul Campbell as the fresh pair of legs. Andy Jones shoots over the bar. Michael Deane has a shot blocked by the keeper. An Edgware Town player is booked in the town box and something is shouted from the Edgware bench. The Ref goes over and appears to write down all the name of those on the Edgware bench. Late on Edgware had a gift of a chance but could fortunately only shoot wide. Ricci Crace was booked for bringing the ball down with his hand.

A worthy win!

Top 9 breaking away after Bury Town's defeat.

After the spanking we had you have to fancy Dartford to be champions which means we have a 50% chance of a playoff place.

Goal diff could be all important in April! If Dartford start to mess their underwear and we can find that consistency then the league could still be ours.

Thanks for boosting the crowd today, but your support was truly awful, I would be embarrassed to be an Enfield Town supporter, as you could hardly raise a chant all game.

Outsung buy the TWO of us!

On the pitch, you were decent enough, I fully expect you to be in playoff frame, but had we taken our chances and our penalty then we would have taken all 3pts.

With a makeshift side we still looked the better team in the later stages of the first half and the second half.

Sure, we can't buy a goal right now, but that will change.

The way your team celebrated at the end like you had won the league told me everything, Edgware have come a long way in a short space of time, and whether or not we make the playoffs does not really matter as we never expected anything this season unlike your club who expect promotion!

Sounds like a bit of sour grapes Gavin. From every report it seems ETFC were worthy winners, and Edgware would have got a slightly fortunate point if they had converted that late chance.

PS..Town fans are experienced enough to know that singing in the open air is equivalent to 'p*ssing in the wind'..Ie.You may have sung your hearts out,but i bet no one else heard you down the other end.And vise versa you would not have heard any of our singing.Get some covering behind the goals and we'll consider creating an proper atmosphere. wink

Just to remind you what you posted earlier this week,

"Seeing as we have not been beaten at home all season you are going to have to put in some display to beat us.

Your form seems to blow hot and cold and I wonder what Enfield Town side will show up.

Having beaten you already this season (and last season in the Middx cup) and having not conceded a goal 720 mins of Football (7 matches) we are in good form and we are NOT bore draw specialists are recent 0-0's at Bury and at home Ware on Tuesday were exciting tense affairs."

No it was not boring but I felt that we were much the better side and for all the possession in the last 10 minutes of the second half there was only one clear cut chance.

The first half you were crap throughout with only your number 10 having anything to offer. For a team that has only conceded 15 goals this season I was expecting a better display from your defence we cut through your rearguard on many occasions and you were frequently saved by the rub of the green. Your goalkeeper also had a good game making one cracking save.

Mel and I went up and thoroughly enjoyed the day! Heald was outstanding and was mom although Deane pushed him close. My reflections are that our reputation goes before us. I thought the bookings for Jones and Foster were correct (I thought it was a penalty !) but the rest seemed harsh.I thought it was very funny when the Edgware no4 was booked for trying to pursuade the ref to book Hammatt (he did by the way!)and could not understand why Mr Sharp failed to book their player for bringing down Nay. I also felt we should have had at least one other penalty.True, Edgware missed a couple of chances but their keeper made some excellent saves to kep them in it and the result was about right. THe committment shown by the side was excellent and the celebrations at the end showed that. Jims selections and tactics were spot on. The journey home was not fun but Mel and I thought it was well worth it.

By the way - the support by the Towners was brilliant and the infantile attitude showed by the couple of numpties on the far side was, well.... infantile.

Thanks to all the Towners who made us so welcome and thanks to Edware for not having anywhere enough programmes and the worst organised facilities so we could not even get a hot drink at half time.

Number 4 was booked for rushing up and pushing, I think it was either Kofi or Deane, for a foul on the half way line.

He ran all of 50 yards just to get involved. When the Enfield player did not respond he tried to walk away from the incident but the ref had to book him and I would not have been surprised if he had been shown a red. Jones was probably correctly booked

(Foster was not playing but as you dont see the team that often you can be excused). I think you are referring to the incident above and you are right the booking was deserved.

I dont know about Hammett's booking late on. It seemed an innocuous foul - more clumsiness and it was not as though it was in a dangerous part of the pitch. I thought the ref had a good game and you are right there should have been an earlier penalty when there was blatant hand ball by one of their players. But that happens in football.

For most of the game yesterday I felt that we were really on top and deserved the lead and should have scored 2 or 3 more before that last ten minutes when I do agree my nerves were jangling a bit.

Edgware's faciliities are poor and it does explain their poor attendance record.
