The ref has called the game off due to water a logged pitch

A bit disappointing. The problem area was very small but the ref decided the game could not be played. Let's hope that area of the pitch isn't going to cause ongoing problems.

Well we were on the M11 when we heard on BBC Essex that the game was off. So we went to watch Harlow beat Chelmsford instead. Unfortunately...they didn't (0-2).

Checking the scores and league table, we're now 14th.

 

Funny old league this season...14th, 2 points off relegation but 9 points off play off's with a game in hand...

 

...still all to play for.

I would be embarrassed if I was the referee and had called the game off for that one small problem area. Just because they play on carpets in the premier league doesnt mean everyone else has too!

It was noted that Staines had a similar amount of damp spots on Tuesday...and East Thurrock isn't quite the plowed field I expected but it was close...

I think Paul's point is valid. People get used to seeing perfect pitches on the telly so they have a panic up at the slightest drop of rain. I'm sure our game would have been played a few years ago.

 

Can anyone remember the last time we had a game called off for "waterlogging"? Frosted off yes, even fogged off once or twice but waterlogged???

Waterlogged, maybe Chelmsford when we played them in the season where we lost to Leyton in the play-ofs, but I'm not sure if we were home or away that day.

I agree. Although I didn't see the pitch, I must admit I was quite surprised when I got the Twitter text saying the game was off, bearing in mind it hadn't rained all morning and the conditions that the game at Hendon was played in.

 

I'd have been a bit annoyed if I had travelled from Folkestone.

its more to do with Health and safety rather than anything else these days. refs are scared that they'll get the blame if anyone gets badly injured after deeming a pitch playable.

I certainly remember Hichin away 3-4 years ago. Went to the ground and made the groundkeeper (?) tour us around to show us the water. Nice place, though

I was thinking more of home games to be honest, can remember a few away from home, most famously Histon about 8 times.

BTW Plas, what was the game that was meant to be scheduled for tonight and anyone know if the club will be opening at all?

I can't see any games being on tonight and with the weather report for the rest of the week, I would imagine that our weekend game at Maidstone will be in doubt.

With the weather forcast for the rest of the week not good, I imagine several games will be off this coming weekend.
