Hornchurch 5 Barking & East Ham United 1

This was an awesome performance. Apart from some very brief spells from the visitors we were on top from start to finish and the scoreline could have been much larger.

It took us only 8 minutes to take the lead. Scott Gooding sent in a cross from the touchline and Andrew Martin bravely stooped to nod in in front of Barking keeper Lee Richards. Gavin McGowan found himself with a great chance after a neat 1-2 with Danny Benstock in the area on 20 minutes but his shot went well over. Barking came close to equalising five minutes later when Paul Wood dropped the ball from a corner, which then fell for Dean Allen six yards out who struck his shot into the ground and over the bar. Our second goal came soon after, a Garry Kimble far post corner being headed in with aplomb by Chris Moore 15 minutes before half time. This was followed a minute later with a Martin effort which was cleared off the line.

Our domination continued into the second half and our third goal came in the 54th minute. Again it was a Kimble far post corner, but this time Vinnie John was there to head it back across goal where Kevin Marsden made sure from within the 6 yard area. Barkings Niall Ritchie scored a consolation goal two minutes later but any hopes they might have had of a comeback were dispelled by two goals from Vinnie John which proved what an assett he is to the side. The first came on the hour. Paul Wood sent a long kick upfield to Martin, sandwiched between two defenders, who helped the ball forward where John, noticing the keeper off his line, rose to head first time over Richards and in. John headed against the crossbar four minutes later from a corner, but he was more precise in the 68th minute. Another pinpoint cross from Gooding was met by the head of John on the edge of the area and the ball flew past Richards who remained rooted to the spot.

For long periods of this season confidence has been noticeably low but this performance contained oodles of it and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Line-up: Wood, Gooding (Cripps 73), Kimble, Jopson, Moore, Marsden, Southon, McGowan (Locke 71), Martin, John, Benstock (Lowery 68). Subs not used: Collier (GK)

It looked like an unfortunate OG for Gav as well from were I was standing. Who cares though, at least Gav tracked the bloke back!! And, I thought Vinny should have had a hat-trick too, his headed looked goal bound to me (sorry Kev)!! What a great game!

This was a great performance today and I just hope that they can continue this for the last six games, because it is certainly not a foregone conclusion that we will go up yet, with 2 teams only a win behind. I thought that Locke looked lively when he came on and I think that he should maybe replace Southon. Maybe it is just me, but I can't really see what effect he has on a game although he works really hard which is always good to see. I'm sure he will come good eventually though. At the same time though, why change a winning team?

I think we needed the bite that JS gives us in midfield that was lacking too often before he joined.

I think Lockey will have to bide his time and put in some more good performances when he gets his chance i.e. from the bench.

Come on you Chins!

Agree with you there, I wouldn't change a winning team. Southon gets stuck in and is a leader, something we have missed for so much of this season. All I would do, and this is no disrespect to Taff, is stick Jonah back in side when he is fit.

No it ain't over yet, but I reckon Hemel and Uxbridge will slip up before long. We just have to keep winning and sew up second place as soon as!

Yes, that is a good point actually. I forget sometimes that we did in fact lack competitivness in the middle earlier in the season. I would just like to see him keep hold of the ball a bit more. He did lose it quite a bit yesterday.

Anyway, here's hoping for 3 points on Tuesday!!

There's no arguing on that point either Raver, we do also lack at times a play maker or anyone who can hold the ball up in centre midfield. Gav in his new midfield role impressed again though.

On another point though, our recent goal glut has helped our goal difference no end, should it all boil down to that at the end of the season. Eight in the past two games has now given us five goal andvantage over Uxbridge, twelve over Hemel and now just two short of Slough. Lets hope though we can get second spot without that though!

It's never over till the fat lady sings as the saying goes.

No of course we haven't but admittedly you are a few points in front and winning matches but we'll keep plugging away and as they say "It's a funny ol game!"

Anyway good luck pal two good games between us not to mention the cup tie.

cheers

I'm not sure how you could even think about dropping jamie, especially after his last performance! If he wasn't on the pitch who would win all the balls? At some points in the match he was even going back to do the left backs job. I believe that 'wee man' is rather wasted in mid field at the moment as a lot of the play is aerial and so he can't show his skills off. Although I agree that someone who could hold the ball is needed, I do not think that replacing jamie is the answer.

its all very well saying give someone or other abreak

but this is promotion chasing football we're talking

about here and the rewards are enormous

for getting into the premier this year and also into the conference shake up,

woods is okay but definately not up to the quality

required and which kaharin brings in bundles.

sad to say but we did look twitchy again at the back,

we always do when woods plays.

as for southen, agreed, he does break up the

opposition play very well, get karine back and

leave it as it is, taffs been great and

even jonah should go on the bench if fit,

let them get on with it as it is.

its hard but competition for places

is all part of being sucessful.

We won 5-1 didnt lose 5-1

we know who you are, dont fret,

you can all be nice about your favourite players but nontheless woods let in 9 goals in 4 games and we lost 3, kharines been back for 4 and we've let in 3 (2 pens) and picked up 10 points, woods was poor on saturday and if you cant see that , well, fair enough, maybe you like it down here, some of us dont,
