Sick as a Parrot

Recommended Posts

Tonight was an absolute gut-wrencher of a game. After an even first half that ended 1-1 the second half we did everything but score. Savidge hit the bar with a rasping drive, Ansell and Graham had shots saved, Stowe came on and had a couple of half chances. Then Hendon go and score with the last kick of the flippin' match. In fairness we always looked suspect at corners with Hendon able to send a trio of big defenders forward up against what must rank as one of the shortest defences around. Ironically it was the injured players - the likes of Penn, Gilley and Wallace (who was resting his dodgy Hernia) that we missed in this respect, rather than the departees. If only we could get a couple of the injured defenders back (we're also without Henty and Morris at the moment) I think we'd be able to start picking up points again.

Team

JJ

Eastwood Adedeji Savidge Jordan

Merritt Snowsill Snowsill Alexander (Stowe)

Ansell Graham

When Stowe came on he went up front and Graham went wide left.

As much as I am delighted with the win (obviously) it was a bit harsh on you guys. You were certainly susceptible at corners, but apart from that you seemed to deal with us well when we attacked. That's two games in a row that we've won with an injury time goal - although there was still a few minutes to play against Canvey on Tuesday. Thats 4 league games in 8 days in which we've got a total of 10 points - about 5 more than I expected! (and 6 games in 13 days)

Gutted! Deserved at least a draw and if it was us that nicked a goal at the end, Hendon couldn't have complained. No lack of effort or commitment with every player working thier knackers off. Merrits goal was a scorcher and if Alexander had headed home after a move that swept the entire length of the pitch, then we'd have a late contender for goal of the season. Superb lads and keep it going, your efforts will rewarded.

Agree with Simon and Ryan. Total committment from the team last night and the players looked as disappointed as the fans. No reflection on the players last night but we lacked height and experience at the back at the back which was also our downfall against Hitchin. To the players, keep going you will get your rewards.

It doesn't matter if we played well the point is we are still not getting any points from these games. 6 points out of the last 36 is pathetic, relegation form, even with the problems we've got. No wonder crowds are going down. Supporters may go to home games, but why bother going to Bedford when we will probably lose.

We need at least two decent strikers and 2 or 3 decent midfielders for next season, but with money problems and Calder's lack of talent spotting(with the exception of a few) this isn't going to happen.

We need a new chairman and a new manager or we might not get into the top 16 next season in order to get into conference div 1.

It's easy to be negative from the comfort of your armchair....

As I've said before I firmly believe that if any two from Gilley Penn or Henty had been fit then we would have got at least a point from the game. There isn't a team in the league that can laugh off 5 injurys from their first choice XI, particularly when 4 of them are defenders!

Ansell did very well up front, his best game for a while in my book. Not convinced by Richard Graham alongside, he had hsi best moments when he dropped off . Would have liked to have seen Alexander pushed up alongside Ansell with Graham linking midfield and attack.

Jordan was pretty much the same as when he was here before. Did his job well, looked solid at left back.

As an opposition supporter, you were well organised at the back, and certainly won't leak goals, although as has been pointed out the lack of height won't help.

Going forward you caused us more problems than Canvey did on Tuesday, and were unfortunate not to score a second when you hit the woodwork. You were extremely unlucky not to come away with a point last night and I hope your next win isn't very far away.

See you guys next season.

sickner, gutted, chocker etc etc.... not really enough to describe the diaapointment. Honestly thought we were good for the draw but Hendon had a player capable of making a throw in as effective as a corner. With our lack of height we could only survive a certain amount of balls in the six yard box. We let two goals in against hitchin from set pieces and two more against hendon. wouldnt even know how to solve this problem as we just have no one with any height that is fit. penny and gilley are prob our tallest players.

I thought the whole team played well, and we did create some good chances. In a way without mark g we are getting the ball into box a bit quicker as he was prone to beating a player then try beating him again. Great goal from Merritt, really well taken after some great play from graham. savidge was really unlucky with his shot that hit the bar. To lose so deep in injury time is so unfair. I personally have nothing but praise for the team, AND the management after this game and i have been a big critic of the manager. Some have said calder cannot motivate his players, well we are mid table with nothing to play for and the lads battled their guts off so something went ok!

to the person who wrote nothing but critisism a few threads back, well for a start ease up on the negatives without being there. if you had been you wouldnt be saying these things as you would have seen how much effort went in. I know effort without a win doesnt get points but we now have a new team in the middle of a season which at any level is not easy. It doenst matter whos fault it is, the players that are on the pitch need our support. Get up off the armchairs and get to the few remaining games, lets give the lads a lift.

well done to the lads, and the few of us that made it there.
