Proposed Changes to Prediction League Format

I would like to take this opportunity to propose a minor change to the points system for the SACFC Prediction League for next season.

 

At the moment, it's one point for the correct 'outcome' of a game, one point for the correct number of goals for the home team, and one point for the correct number of goals for the away team.

 

Therefore, someone who said City would win 2-0 on Saturday would get the same number of points as someone who correctly predicted a draw, but said 1-1 instead of 2-2.

 

It also means that someone who predicted City would lose 0-1 against Canvey earlier in the season, for example, would get the same number of points as someone who correctly predicted a home win, but said 1-0 to City instead of 2-1.

 

My proposed change is as follows...

 

We should get one point for correctly predicting the 'outcome' (ie win, defeat or draw) and then an extra two points if you have the scoreline spot-on.

 

Therefore, in my first example, the person who predicted the 2-0 win for City would get 0 points, whereas the person who predicted 1-1 would still get 1 point.

 

And in the second example, the person who predicted the defeat would get 0 points, and the one who predicted a 1-0 win would get 1 point. You would only get all three points if you predicted a 2-1 victory.

 

Only a subtle difference in rules, but one I think would make the league table slightly more accurate as far as 'best prediction' goes.

 

This is the system we use in our prediction league here at work, and over the course of the season, seems the slightly fairer way.

So there is a limit to how bored you get in the office then...you haven't bothered to work that out. That would take ages!

How about:

 

1 point for correct result - (eg. win, draw, loss)

1 point for correct score - (eg. 1-0, 2-2, 1-4)

1 point for 1st scorer - (eg. Martin, Ronaldo, Sniffer Thorns)

1 point for being within xx of the attendance.

Basically, I said 1 point for correct result (eg. win, draw, loss) and then 2 additional points for correct scoreline.

 

Then it wipes out the daft point you'd get if you were an Enfield fan and predicted a 2-0 win against Bedford.

He's got a point - in ours u get 2 points for outcome & 2 points for getting each teams' score correct.

 

i.e. a 1-0 win:

somebody predicting 2-1 win only gets 2 points,

somebody predicting 0-0 draw also gets 2 points,

somebody predicting 1-3 lose also gets 2 points!

Might implement a rule change in ours, along the lines of.....

 

.....next season, you only get the points for the guessing the home and away goals if you got the outcome right first!

 

Now that should make it more interesting.....

What about first scorer and attendance; would you still get bonus points for these even though you got the result wrong?

Yes. That needn't change.

 

However, maybe the person nearest to the attendance should possibly get a couple of points in addition?? It doesn't need overcomplicating though.
