I had a really weird dream last night that the door to North Korea was down my old street next to the church.

 

I kept popping in and it was a strange place, I already knew a bit about it because of that "holidays in the axis of evil" program.

 

So today I took a look at the rough planet guide to North Korea, it's a very strange, weird but fascinating place.

 

Now I want to go there for my holidays, I think it'll be great (well the bits they let me see)

 

Some Highlights:

 

Visas: This is the difficult part. If you're from the US or South Korea you can pretty much forget about it. Other nationals may have some luck approaching the tourism office in the North Korean Embassy in Beijing; your chances of being granted a visa are far lower at other embassies. A visa, if it is going to be granted, can normally be granted quickly

 

Getting about: There are no regularly scheduled domestic flights and the ones that are scheduled are not available to foreigners. There are hardly any public buses running in the country or between major cities. North Koreans are not permitted to travel around their own country without permission, and most of the time you'll travel by car with your driver and guide. You may be able to get trains to some of the major tourist destinations such as Kaesong. There are virtually no bicycles in the country, in stark contrast to China, and even if you brought your own, there are no street signs in the city or direction signs in the country.

 

You can only vist the country with a goverment appointed guide, you can only see what they want you to see and you can't wander about on your own - There isn't many hotels due to the lack of vistors so everyone stays in the same one, under government supervision of course! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Group tours organised by Nick Bonner out of Beijing (he made the recent documentary on NK 1966 world cup team) and they usually visit for special occasions.

I can beat you're weird dreams by a mile! For example, last night I dreamt....

 

I was in a medieval type village and we were on a bus going to Norway, which was being driven by SHANE RITCHIE!!! He was going really fast as he was having a race with the other bus driver and we were all scared he was going to crash. We got to Norway in about 2 minutes 'cos it turns out it's just up the road.

 

We're staying in an underground hotel and Jack from Hollyoaks is there and I start racing him down the stairs. Then it cuts to me and my friend Jenny(from college) in a foyer with some people from my old school who I hated! They were being really horrible to my friend so we started to have a go at them. They were going on about how they were married and stuff like that an how we hadn't achieved anything. We were saying that they were tied down and must have been desperate if they got married that young. It was all very strange!

 

The strangest dream I ever had was when I dreamt I gave birth to a pig on a motorway. I have loads of dreams about giving birth!

I feel like a pyschologist after reading all this but can't help of being reminded of a 'Pete & Dud' dream sketch and Pete starts talking about Freud and every thought we have being sexual:

 

Dud: So you mean everything we do is some way related to sex?

 

Pete: That's right Dud

 

Dud: Even reading the newspaper?

 

Pete: In Fruedian terms it's nothing more or less than symbolic rape.

 

Pete: Well, I gave the Radio Times a right going over the other day!
