HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHUBBHEAD!!!

Recommended Posts

Well it's good academically too...I can do a maximum of 2 semesters in Europe or America. I'm doing journalism but I think it's a bit more theory-based then practical. Anyway it was a choice between there, Lincoln(which is quite nice but a bit dull) and Lancashire.I think beer is cheaper in Scotland anyway. I think it was something like 1.60 in the student bar and 1.80 in town. What did you study at Uni?

History/Media Studies and I got a 2/2. My course was more theory based. If I had done Media Studies on its own I would have done more practical stuff.

I wanted to be a journalist, mainly sports writing but found it difficult to get into. In some ways I've partly achieved my aim because I write regularly in the CIFC matchday programme but most newspapers or magazines want you to have a NCTJ qualification and to do that course costs over a £1000 for a one year course so it's very hard to get into unless you have alot of pesistance!

I didn't know it cost that much! What with student debt I can see how you wouldn't be able to do it. But if you think about it, it would probably be worth it because you may find it easier to get a job, and then you'd probably earn back what you spent on getting the qualification. Although I know it's never that easy.

My media teacher told me that you should just write loads and loads of letters to newspapers/magazines asking for work experience. Then if you get some put lots of effort into it and if a position comes up for a junior writer they might consider you. That's one way to do it anyway.

Well, Edinburgh has a Uni paper so I can always get involved with that. Also, UH has a paper and you can just send in articles on whatever. That way you've got something published and you've got something to show future employers.

Anyway, enough careers advice for tonight, I'm off to watch telly!

unless EFM have wound up any Scottish people lately!

Funny you should say that - but me and DA have been to Glasgow a couple of times to see Jimbob, and the first time Dave did have a bit of a disagreement with a jock (we were unwittingly in the roughest club in Glasgow), fortunately it was all defused when somebody fell down the stairs and cracked their head open

Claire, how old are you? I'm waiting to go to Scotland (for Uni) to find myself a man!

I'm 21! Well i'm always looking! and i've been all around the country to find myself a man! I've been to Bournemouth, where there were plenty, Gurnsey, where there was one, Reading, where there were 3, and then Cambridge, where there were loads of posh blokes that i didn't really fancy, but they did have money and would buy all the drinks all night!

Now back in St Albans, well, what can i say?! There aint many!

P.S Yes Scottish men's accents are lovely, especially if they are a certain actor out of Trainspotting and Moulin Rouge! Very sexy!!!

You'd be surprised.

The most quoted-ever line in one thread?

I think you'll find the Irish don't like the Scots, rather than the Scots not liking the Irish.
