Bottled it....... again

I don't even know why I'm surprised we didn't win last night, as every pressure game this season has seen us bottle it and turn in a poor performance snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. We didn't turn up at Northwood, we gave away two frigging penalties at Wealdstone and failed to attack an obviously fragile keeper, Harrogate had team spirit whilst we had super Steve Browne and all of his motivational talent, we conceded sloppy late goals at Barton and Hemel when the game should have been sealed already, and those four points now stop us from being top of the table. A point at Thame was a good result against a decent side but last night was ridiculous. Their goal came from a long throw which nobody could be bothered to clear and lo and behold they'd scored.

We seem to have resorted to playing the long ball game with Hodges now in the team and to a certain extent it worked..... but the reason we've had high scoring victories this season has been through passing the opposition out of contention. We had a spell last night once Sammy came on where we looked like a decent team, threatened Aveley and the goal came. But having got level the momentum dropped and barely had their keeper make a save.

I know Mr Browne isn't exactly a great motivator but the way he had the team line up was ridiculous. Wilko (midfielder) at right back, Deano (right back) at left back and Rocky (been playing left back) in midfield. Its not brain surgery now is it! Mind you, I'm not sure Browne has anything to operate on.

Hope Daly's head wasn't too badly damaged, not often you see a player subbed for a head injury.

We need Hornchurch to slip up twice now to have a chance. We've dropped to 5th and on current form we'll slip into mid-table mediocrity. 1 win, 4 draws and 1 defeat in last 6. I'd take a defeat instead of a draw if we could actually convert a couple of those draws into victories, we should have been going all out for promotion, now it all comes down to hope, and I don't think there is too much of that on the terraces.

cry from the heart there bfr....you've gotta keep the faith however....right to the end of the season.....

I didn't go to aveley last night but several urchins did and they said the game was poor and that your lot didn't really seem up for it at all....someway or other your managers got to get that team motivated or they will start to lose touch...I reckon you have to beat Harlow on Saturday to keep in it....we will of course be pleased with you drawing again....

mind you... we've got a tough home game against Barking...lots of local rivalry and all that......

anyway...obviously pleased that you dropped two points but disappointed for you guys on the terraces....people too easily forget that you're the ones that matter ultimately....keep the faith.....

There's keeping the faith and there is blind optimism. We should have seen the players working their socks off trying to get maximum points because at this stage draws are irrelevant. The manager couldn't motivate a Texan to buy a gun, but the players should know the importance of the match. There was little effort, nothing much for the travelling support to enjoy and once again we gave the opposition a head start by failing to register that the game has begun. Yes mathematically we're well and truly involved, but if neither the players nor management can be bothered to fully engage in these matches there is no hope.

''The players should know what to do''

its an interesting topic this because you are absolutely right...they should know what to do......but none of them actually do when its needed from them....personally I think that the attitude of the players is an extension of the Managers personality.....

if the Manager is soft...the disciplinary record of the club will be poor...

If the Manager is respected by the players and treats them correctly....the players will play for the badge and not the money.....

Players get Managers sacked and hasten a clubs plunge into bankruptcy when money is tight......they can't be trusted to work alone.... they need managing.....thats why clubs have managers......

Good managers make good teams who win things.....

To many managers..at all levels of football....have to high an opinion of themselves.....but they never actually win anything....
