Of course - you can't serve the suspsension whilst under appeal (otherwise if you won the appeal but had already served the suspension, what would be the point of appealing?)

I suspect the decision will come before then.....

Obviously, but I was wondering if the decision would happen before the end of the season, because he is one play we could do with having.

According to the FA it will all be dealt with before 12th April which is when Mark's three match ban is due to start.

A copy of video has already been sent to the referee and also to the three members of the appeal panel. If the referee agrees that he got it wrong then the card will either be reduced to a yellow or rescinded completley, and the ban will be cancelled.

If he still thinks he is right then the panel will be asked for their opinion.

The problem is that even IF ( yes that is a big if ) the video evidence conclusively proves Bentley is innocent , which is almost impossible , the ref still has to change his decision.

As Fulhams goalkeeper found out after getting a red against Spurs recently not being guilty doesn't mean not getting punished.

Whatever happens we have still lost Bentley from the 12th the last three games. It was never a red card it was a 50/50 ball and should be treated as such, yhe ref made an error like he did only yellow carding the player who kicked out at Wilkerson.

Not whatever happens if the appeal succeeds then there will be no suspension.

Not quite true, if the video was that conclusive, even if the ref doesn't want to admit that he was wrong then the appeal panel would still be able to cancel the card.

In Taylors case the video appeal panel found in his favour but he still got the ban.Taylor's red card stands

Story by FootyMAD 12 March 2003

Maik Taylor has lost his appeal against the red card he picked up in the recent game with Tottenham Hotspur.

Taylor was sent off for fouling Simon Davies in the 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane last month but the club appealed the decision and the Football Association referred the matter to their video review panel who decided there could have been a case for wrongful dismissal.

However, after an FA hearing at Soho Square the panel upheld referee Graham Barber's verdict on Taylor's red card and he will now serve an automatic ban.

FA spokesman Andrin Cooper said: "Footage of the incident was looked at by the video advisory panel, who felt there may have been a case for wrongful dismissal.

"But Taylor's appeal, heard today by a three-man commission, failed. So he will serve a one-match with immediate effect."

Taylor's red-card deemed unfair

Story by FootyMAD 6 March 2003

Keeper Maik Taylor's sending-off against Tottenham last month has been deemed an unfair dismissal by an FA Video Advisory Panel.

Fulham appealed the red card handed out to Taylor in the game at White Hart Lane on February 24th and the FA have told the club that its Video Advisory Panel view the red card has an unfair act of dismissal.

The case will now appear before the disciplinary commission for a final decision on Wednesday 12th March.
