Tilson's Testimonial

Southend can't get anything right! We get to Roots Hall for Tilly's testimonial and find the block that is supposedly allocated for Canvey is virtually full. They've let everybody else in meaning that most of us who got the coach down can't get into that block. So half the Canvey fans find themselves being put into the South stand, wandering around trying to find seats and split up from the majority of our supporters. Talk about disorganised!!

 

Had to admit it was brilliant seeing the Southend fans giving Dicksy abuse. They got so wound up when he pushed their forward a couple of times in the box.

Julian Dicks and Russell Osman must be the slowest centre back pairing in world football! Still a quality goal from Clive Allen.

 

A good night for a great player!

Best moment for me was Ray Wilkins taking out some fairy from SUFC. He must be about twenty years older, and still won the challenge. p.s the Lino on the west side was so far behind the play, he missed every single offside decision all night !! Funny cos the SUFC fans thought it was great the first half, and then were surprised the second half ???

I think I would've actually bought a ticket just to see Ray Wilkins and Dennis Wise, (don't he look small!)

 

But I was rubbing shoulders with Collymore and Brooking in the Press/Directors area.

 

Everyone see that Canvey reject playing for the Dream Team XI?

 

Also our photographer informs me that Jeff, Glenn, Wardy & Bods were in the bar as well

Anybody see in the first half when Chris Powell nicked the lino's flag and stuffed it down his shorts, absolute quality!

 

That Southend fairy who Ray Wilkins took out was Barrington Belgrave. I bet he wished he joined Aldershot now!

Saw Powell take the lino's flag, He was like a baby without a dummy ! Great moment ! Great night. Could hear the famous CIFC bugle. Amazing how much conversation goes around the SUFC ground about us !! How about a pre-season friendly at Roots Hall next season ??? Wouldn't it be great if we were only one division apart by then ??

I used to enjoy the Southend Utd friendlies. You always got a big crowd and it always seemed to be played on the hottest day of the year.

 

It was great hearing the Southend fans saying what a crap ground we've got and saying how they wouldn't have too many problems beating us before we proceded to humiliate them.

 

I remember when we played them before the 1997/98 season and I think it was Alvin Martin's first game in charge of Blues.

Me and my mate were standing in front of some really vocal Southend fans listening to them slag off our ground, giving abuse to Tilly and Andy Sussex and generally being really obnoxious.

Andy Sussex gave us the lead, and we just went barmy, that really shut them up.

We won 3-1 and it was great to see the look on Southend fans' faces at the end of the game!

That started the downward spiral for Blues and put Canvey on the way up!

Looks like you got your wish - SUFC website says Canvey will play a pre-season friendly at Roots Hall, date tbc...but I suspect we will still be two divisions apart after last night's results.

Yeah, I couldn't make last night. Totally gutted like everyone else no doubt. I thought we could have pulled off a win after three previous games, and knowing a bit about their play.

 

Tough game again Saturday, Billericay will be out to screw us up as well; and also the Aldershot game to come. it looks like a big hill at the moment !

 

Can I suggest we get some real singing going and support for the lads. Silence is not a good morale booster !!

What abut the last friendly of that pre season when we played them again, although they brought virtually a first team inc mike marsh and others,and their fans said we could only beat their ressies, what happened? thats right, we beat 'em again 4-2! On the subject of Southend, i hope i never have to go there again!

hmm So Southend want a money spinning tie, who do they get? Arsenal?, Spurs?, West Ham maybe?

 

No, Canvey Island! They're running scared, play it at Park Lane and we would humiliate them.

 

I can see the headlines now, we win 4-0 with Scott Forbes scoring a hattrick and summer signing Phil Whelan coming back to haunt his old club and the Yellow Army giving new Southend boss Graham Rix plenty of stick! Ahh but just a dream!
