Forget sitting in a bath full of baked beans or running the London Marathon - a group of St Albans City supporters believe they have found the perfect way to raise money for a sick little girl.

The amount of cash the Saints fans will raise depends on how much beer they can drink during a trip to an away match - and they admit they will be putting in the work and downing a few extra pints for a good cause.

The fund-raiser has been organised by a group of City followers called EFM (England's First Martyr) and will take place during the side's trip to Canvey Island on April 5.

They will match every penny they spend on booze and travelling to Canvey and donate it to Candy Bloomfield, a young girl from the Island who is suffering from leukaemia.

After meeting in St Albans, the group will travel to Essex by train, stopping off at plenty of pubs along the way. Saints fan Colin Zeal, who is helping to organise the trip, said: "I first heard about Candy about six months ago on an Internet message forum and we felt it would be nice to do something.

"We have decided to fit it into a trip and the journey to Canvey is normally quite a rowdy event!"

The 27-year-old accounts clerk admits it's the ideal way for football fans to raise money, saying: "It appeals to me! More and more people are getting involved and we will do our best to raise as much money as possible."

EFM, you didn't get a mention but you certainly stand out in the picture! Like the Eminem-esque hair colour! My brother dyed his hair that colour too.
