Hmmm ... never got my first two Gravesend And Northfleet Programmes from the 1946 inaugural season back . Should have got someone to sign in their own blood for their safe return to me !

What is the clock on the wall just to the left of the catering on the side of the ground where people stand ? Right in the corner looking a bit forgotten from a different era ? It looks like something old and with a touch of paint and a new hand on , could be a nice bit of history ?. I have seen something similar in the past but cant remember what they used to be used for. Was it just a manual time for the game ? , from the era when they had the half time scores around the pitch as A B C D etc ?

Just curious

A large "hand" attached to a clock mechanism used to be attached to it at the start of the game & it would record the passage of 45 minutes, before being re-set for the 2nd half. If I remember correctly, it appeared when we were in the Southern League & was a mechanism provided to all clubs in the league by a sponsor. My wife was Commercial Director back then & used to sell advertising spaces on the board around the clock face, the idea being that it would be a focal point that people would be looking at frequently.

This idea has been done in the US in Charleston, South Carolina's Blackbaud Stadium, home of the USL First Division's Charleston Battery (the US equivilant to the Coca-Cola Championship) Their "Three Lions Pub" is decorated in Battery, US, and international memoribia (jerseys, posters, balls, etc... It's open to the general public and available for private functions. Here's a link to the stadium website:
