Another long report but they are the current most successful Margate FC side so far this season. Shame that again there is no post match hospitality, or a tea bar.

It might have been sunny but the temperature only was just above zero as Margate took on Dover Athletic at HP. As already said the Gate needed to keep the pressure on Whitstable for that 2nd spot. With a lively start Margate were well into their stride and took control and despite Dover getting forward the defence and Matt Bowles held and in fact it was from a long kick from Bowles that put Dan GB in. Beating the keeper to the ball a lob put Margate in front in 4 mins. Dover fought on and gave Margate some worry on corners and in fact Margate were leaking corner the whole game. A good chance from Dover saw a shot go wide, Margate regained themselves and with 2 quick passes put Ban GB in again for a nice shot and 2 nil. That should have been it but Dover had other ideas and the last 15 mins saw them take control and from a corner which Margate failed to clear and a close shot saw the half end 2-1.

Second half was a reveres of the first, Dover made all the running and Margate seemed to welt and a nice move from the visitors gave them 2-2. Again Margate could not get into the game and it seemed that the same Gate tactics used in the earlier tie were once more were going to fail with one route forward with Matt B pulling off a fine save to keep Gates hopes alive. But pressure told and confirmed Gates weakness when Dover took the lead with a 20 yd shot missed by the blinded Gate keeper. All seemed lost. However, this is football and slowly Margate found their feet. A dodgy foul waved away and a following throw put Margate in, unfortunately the pass back to the thrower was rightly waved off side but play carried on and the fine cross gave Mike L the header home, 3-3 and the game was on. A Gate corner saw Nick Argi power a header off the bar to keep Gate going. Dover could not match Margate eagerness and two mins later a great move starting on the right with a cross, two quick passes and a lovely through ball put Jack Morrell in for a tight angled shot and 4-3. The final mins were much the same but to my reckoning (video clock) the ref blew about 5 mins early. Another win, even f it was lucky, keeps Margate in the chase.
