Colours at football

Recommended Posts

I know we probably have more things to worry ( size of crowd 952 for one ) but is it just me that is really pissed off when I see grown men wearing other teams colours at our home games. A glimpse round and you see Gills, Arsenal, Charlton etc and there are even some spurs.

I find this an insult.. I am more than happy for other teams fans to attend our games and obviously encourage it. but I wish they would have the decency to not wear they colours.

rant over.

well done to team today for 1st half performance. Roll on Histon and Burton as they will test our play off credentials.

Exactly. There''s nothing wrong with it, but you do just think 'why?'. You're not at Spurs, you're not at United, couldn't you just have worn something else if you don't have a Fleet top?

Its not only these 2 games coming up - of our next 5 league games, 4 are against sides around us in the top part of the table - Histon (A), Burton(H) have been mentioned, but theres also Torquay (A) and Exeter (H) in that batch of games - the only 1 against a bottom half side is the televised game against Crawley. (We are also due to play Kidderminster (A) in the midst of this period, but with any luck, this wont be happening if we beat Dorchester next week & move into the last 16 of the Trophy (and Kiddy may also beat Weymouth in the competition which would also prevent that game taking place even if we go out to Dorchester).

Given the Trophy games in this period, as well as the Setanta Shield at Weymouth, and the KSC game against Dartford, this period really could be the make or break of our season. We could either find ourselves on the fringes of the play off battle, in the KSC semis , the quarters of the Trophy, and the quarter final of the Setanta Shield, or we could go out of all 3 cups and lose touch completely with the play off contenders, which could mean our season is effectively over by mid Feb (I certainly hope the former situation applies and doubt that the latter will apply, but if it does, what will attendances be like then??)

Holy cow, Alan!
A projection like that should see you at the games in a hair shirt! wink

With regard to colours worn at Fleet... A good few people turn up at Fleet when their 'own' team aren't playing or are playing away. Yes, its kinda disrespectful to wear other colours - but if the choice is between people wearing other shirts and turning up, against people not turning up - which would you choose?

Agreed, there where some very strange people standing near me yesterday, not that they wearing other clubs colours in fact most of them had clearly visited the club shop and where sporting all things Ebbsfleet they just didn't look comfortable in the real world.

952 wasn't a good gate but it would have been a fair bit lower without the MyFC geek crew. applause

Bless them for making the effort and I hope they all enjoyed the day. Comeback soon.

personally I will take a lead from the old bill method of policing from the late 70's / early 80's , in regards to anyone who had 10 holed DM's. ie make them take their laces out before going into the big London grounds, and then tied all the laces to lamposts to be collected after game.

A whole raft of Gills , Charlton etc memorabilia hanging around lamposts by stonebridge road whilst games are on might just do the trick.

Don't even get me started on Lance Cronin being sponsored by an ECFC fan whom shouts it loud and proud from the programme !

Up the Fleet

On a personal note I think any grown man in a football shirt looks a bit of a prat, a polo or t-shirt i can accept. Football shirts are for sportsmen to play football in, not for the squeezing in of beer bellies. I stopped wearing shirts at 16 and that was 27 years ago. Now that should start a bit of a backlash....!

Which would a player rather see? The stand behind him swarming with the colours of his club, or a bunch of people in black coats and hoodys? Surely a player can derive more from a sea of red shirts.

I'd agree with that 100% I normally wear red to the matches and something with GNFC on ( I haven't quite embraced the Ebbsfleet bit) but I don't wear a replica shirt,
I don't object to others wearing them though its just that I couldn't take the look of contempt that my wife would give me if I left the house wearing a football shirt.

Did they have big sparkly signs with 'Come on the Fleet' or something similar written on them? laugh
