MyFC Again

Recommended Posts

Been reading all the threads with interest as thinking of joining the above. I see it has mixed feelings and rightly so, i think it will work purley due to the financial clout it will give the club, but this will eventually lead to it collapsing as other clubs jump on the bandwagen and do the same. Say Gloucester City for an example middle of country easy to get to potensial of bigger support or small Italian, French, Dutch teams etc doing the same and getting the following the fleet were picking up. Has the club noticed a large increase in shirt sales as i would think that a lot of the 50000 new fans would like to eventually wear the club colours and the i would have thought my football club manager t shirts compleate with personal initials must be huge. Well i hope this works out for all you original fans and enjoy the initial few years of sucsess this it will bring.

But will they be able to? MyFC has spawned a few 'buy your own club' websites in its wake, but these will inevitably be much poorer versions without even half the interest. The thing about the internet and these kinds of ideas... the first one takes off, the pale imitations that follow it tend to fail because they're just rehashing an original idea that has already grabbed most of the media and public interest.

Take that million dollar website. There's been hundreds of copies, but none made anywhere near a million dollars.

It might prompt a few more genuine supporter-owned clubs, though, if MyFC goes tits up. It hasn't exactly been an explosion of supporter-owned clubs so far, of course, but a steady growth at all levels of the game, including in the Football League. You can find out if your club (I mean the club you support, not Ebbsfleet) has a supporters' trust by looking at http://www.supporters-direct.org/ - who knows, you might even be able to take joint-ownership of the club you support!
