Last season v this - to date

Recommended Posts

Looking at last season's 1st 25 games compared to this, its surprising to see that they are very similar, despite our concerns regarding lack of a goalscorer.

Last season, after 25 games, we had 41 points (W12 D5 L8), compared to 39 this season.

Last season, after 25 games, goals scored was 32 and goals conceded was 30. This season, its 31 scored and 27 conceded.

Last season, the top scorer at this stage was Charlie Mac with 13 whereas this season, its Stacy Long with 6. Last season, though, only 6 other players had scored apart from Charlie - De Bolla (6), Sodje (5), Moore(4), Slatter (2), Ross Smith (1) and Hawkins (1). This season, 10 other players have scored between 1 and 4 goals each, probably giving a better overall balance to the side.

It would look likely that we will finish with something like last seasons points total if we have a similar 2nd half of the season to the 1st half and with a bit of added "oomph" we can still challenge for the play offs.

Also on a comparable match by match basis (excluding clubs we didnt play last season), we have taken 32 points from 20 games as compared to 28 last season.

Interesting stats, Alan. How did the Fleet's table position compare to last year's...roughly the same?

Listening to today's game was really impressive. With the form Grays had been displaying recently, it was great to see this result come through. 3 more points against Weymouth would keep the momentum building.

According to Confguide, we were in 6th place after 25 games last season - this season, we're 9th, so slightly lower. Had we had 41 points as at this stage last season, we would have been 7th this season, 1 point off 6th - so we're not so far off last season there either & we got so very close to the play offs last season, so who knows what could happen this year.

With no evidence whatsoever, other than my own eyes of course, I think the league is a fair bit tougher this season.

I always thought a major reason that we maintained a challenge for a play-off spot up to the last day of the season was as much due to the inconsistencies of our rivals as to our own high standards.
