just heard that the celtic v rangers match has been postponed because of the death of motherwells phil o'donnell who used to play at ibrox.for feck sake, a young man dies, a father of 4 young children thats tragic but why is this match postponed. play the game and hold a collection for his family before the match.whatever happened to the stiff upper lip, when did we become so fecking sentimental?i blame the death of princess diana, thats when we started to come over all rikki lake.how will postponing this match help o'donnell's family, in their circumstances do you think they give a damm?for feck sake, lets get a grip!

Great shout! They have missed the opportunity to show their respect in front of 67,000 fans plus a TV audience.

How is calling the game off going to help the O'Donnell family?

Reading between the rant, I agree with you. I am sure Mr O'Donnell's wishes, had he been allowed them, would have been that the show must go on.

Cancelling all games achieves nothing. A minutes' applause before each match on January 2 in Sweat land should cover it all.

I'm sure Phil O' Donnell would have wanted the game played so don't see the point in postponing it.

i agree richard.I saw this earlier and was going to post something but thought i may get canned for my views.

I don't believe that celtic have asked for the match to be postponed because of those reasons.I believe that have used it because they are out of form and rangers would of dicked them.

People in this country die every day, some legends die hours before games who meant more than o'donnell did to celtic.

Never be frightened of saying what you feel Robbo (not that anyone could accuse you of that grin). It's easy to be popular but it takes balls to sometimes go against the grain!!! And you have BIG cojones!!! laugh

did rangers play their fixtures against celtic at a different stadium whilst phil o'donnell was with the hoops then? i reckon he played at both.

i believe the family actually asked for the postponements and as such, their wishes should be adhered to and not what people think phil would have wanted...

should have been played imo.

Richard you are talking rubbish and so is everyone that agrees with you.I have a cousin who is very close to Phil O'Donnells wife and family.Phil O'donnells family are all Celtic fans and many of them are season ticket holders at Celtic,it was his Fathers proudest day when his son signed for Celtic.Phil played for Celtic for 5 years in that time he made many friends many of whom are still connected with the club.Tommy burns signed Phil for Celtic from Motherwell, and he is 1st team coach at Celtic at the moment along with many other players who are close friends with Phil.It was the wishes of all Phils family that this game be postponed.Phil O'Donnell leaves behind 7 brothers and sisters a mother and father and 4 children aged between 4 and 13, I dont think its to much to ask that there wishes along with many players and fans are respected

Richard's point was how does calling the game off help the O'Donnells? Even if they requested the game be postponed, which I doubt, what purpose did it serve?

Apart from the inconvenience to 67,000 fans who were looking forward to watching a game on a Bank Holiday, they now have to mess around with alternative arrangements for what is now likely to be an evening game. Did anybody ask them if they minded postponing the game, course not!

Just think, if every fan attending the game threw 50p into a bucket for Phil's family, they would have cleared the best part of £30k.

Finally, as a parent, I would find it hard to imagine a more fitting tribute than to see my son's picture up on a massive screen at the ground with a full Parkhead crowd giving him a minute's applause/silence. Just my opinion you understand!

Having called off certain games ie celtic v rangers,Gretna v St mirren(played at fir park) and motherwells game i do find it strange that the Dundee Utd v Hibs game hasn't been called off as the players from Dundee utd actually witnessed the tragic death.

I just think that if any games were to be cancelled then it should be mortherwells and dundee utds games, not celtics.

I also wonder whether because of the rivalry between celtic and rangers maybe the SFA and celtic were worried that some opposing fans would not have adhered to the mintes silence or whatever tribute was planned.
