Are Gillingham/Scally getting desperate?

Desperate?? Despite our rivalry with the Gills, I think it would be a good buy for them. Thirty goals by December is an amazing feat, and whilst a 20-goal a season BSP man might be out of his depth in League One, I don't think a 40+-goal a season striker would have problems cutting it two leagues above. I think it's far from desperate to recruit a potentially prolific striker for about 200k, and they could do far worse by throwing money at a thirtysomething has-been.

Paradoxically, I have been pilloried on here for daring to suggest the likes of Brendan Cass or John Main would do well here, as they wouldn't cut it at the higher level.
I bet they would!
Instead, we signed the very prolific Chukki and Rafa.

I've always thought you've had a point there CG. Dagenham ran away with the League last year as Paul Benson, former lower league footballer, banged in the goals. Plenty of players across football have been picked from lower leagues and from worse clubs, and still cut it at their new level. However, people will always question such a transfer and there is a gamble element involved- maybe where Daish's judgement comes in?

Which is precisely er. £200,000 more than we got when Macdonald joined Southend.

At least someone at Forest Green has had the foresite to get, someone who they originally took a risk on, onto a half decent contract. Certainly one that is good enough to ensure that a transfer fee will have to be paid.

Have you not grasped the fact yet that at the time we could simply not afford to give any player a contract that lasted more than a year? He's gone, get over it - We've got Akinde tongue!

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant John. Fleetwood signed a one-year contract when he joined FGR, same as MacDonald did when he joined us. We had the foresight to extend that midway through the season, FGR have to get rid of Fleetwood now or he walks away in the summer.

The only difference is that Fleetwood has scored more than MacDonald at the same stage and so people are willing to pay money for him now. Had someone wanted to buy Charlie during either of the Januarys he was under contract, we'd have got money.

So FGR's 'foresight' has been no different to ours.
