the 'league within a league'

as we all know the ESL is made up of the 'haves' and 'have nots', unfortunately at basildon we fall into the latter category,as we approach the new year we like a host of ESL clubs have bugger all to play for as far as silverware is concerned, bearing this in mind i have decided to form a 'league within a league'. to become members of this league you must have a negative league record, i.e. to have lost more matches than

what you have won.

the founding members of the league are therefore hullbridge, stansted, london apsa, beaumont, sawbridgeworth, basildon and mauritus.the league table will be based on results of matches against fellow league members, clubs should be aware that if they ever acheive a postive league record i.e. winning more matches than what they lose they will be automatically expelled from the league and will only be re-admitted when their league record becomes negative again.teams currently not members can join the league if they achieve a negative record, for example if clapton lose their next 3 matches they will join the league.

the secret of success in this league is to lose all your matches against sides with a positive record which most do anyway but pick up results against fellow league members.obviously this is probably the most pointless and futile football tournament since the watneys cup was disbanded in the mid 70's but basildon united could actually win it. the current league table is as follows:

1.hullbridge 6 11pts

2.stansted 5 10

3.sawbridgeworth 6 10

4.beamount 7 8

5.mauritus 7 8

6.basildon 6 5

7.london apsa 5 5

as the league stands at the moment {with 7 teams} all sides will play 12 matches but this can alter depending on the number of sides in the league, hullbridge may be leading the way at the moment but they have played 5 home matches, while stansted have played only one.basildon look set to climb the table with matches against mauritus and london apsa coming up.

please note the league will be disbanded if i lose interest or it becomes mathematically impossible for basildon to win it.

forget the battle at the top coach this is the real business from now on,london apsa v hullbridge on january 19th now has some meaning, its this 'unoffical' championship that the real supporters will be focussing on.we dont need the big spending concord or the well supported romford and enfield, the real fans will be at the basildon v london apsa match on febuary 2nd.the real beauty of this league is that if you win too many and achieve a 'positive' league record your expelled, not that hullbridge should have any fears there.

massive matches coming up this weekend with basildon hosting apsa and sawbridgeworth will go top if they beat hullbridge at home.massive interest in this league now with even the league chairman admitting to me at the concord vase match that hes got more interest in the 'minnows' league than the boring battle going on at the top of the table.
