Canvey 5-0 Tilbury

FINALLY! A decent result against those pesky Dockers.

Today, Canvey as a team showed two 'things' I haven't seen us do for a long, long time: Width and fight!

Every player on that field looked like they'd had a massive kick up the backside and were determined to perform. Definately have to agree with Man of the Match, Fanibuyan was totally class today and so unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself.

Quality goals from Curran too, showed great pace for both, which I was pleasantly surprised with. Also some excellent poaching from Clydie Roberts for his goals. Right place, right time as it were. Ruggy worked tirelessly as always and a grabbed one for himself.

As I said with the width, we seemed to show a lot more of it and stretch Tilbury. Fanibuyan stuck to the right, where he had so much space and Francis, Corbell and to an extent Bourney also had freedom to roam. It is often noticable that whenever a goal=kick is taken, all 20 players shift over to one side of the pitch leaving a third of the pitch bare. Today we didn't do that and our players sticking to the touchlines dragged out the Tilbury players and made for some great overlapping and passing football from both wings, which is another rarity.

The defence also looked more comfortable today. I don't think there was anything on the floor or in the air that either Colin Wall or Davey K missed. If their attack did manage to get round a full-back they were on hand to clear up. Not even Tilbury's best player, (number 11) could get past those centre halves.

Mention of the Referee today, who I thought had an excellent game. He let it the play flow and more often that not got his decisions right, whilst showing his authority for those fouls that required bookings.

Would love for us to perform the same again against Aveley next weekend. I don't expect another 6-1 given their change in personnel, but Wayne Vaughan having a nightmares after his return to Park Lane would do nicely. granate

A great performance to bounce back from a heavy defeat at Dartford.

Gab was sublime. Nearly everything we created came through him and Tilbury just couldn't handle him. Such a shame he didn't score, he really deserved a goal.

Two great finishes from Jay. Showed alot of confidence and calmness to finish well.

Clydie got stuck in and was rewarded with two goals and Ryan bossed the midfield.

Defence looked very solid. Dave Kreyling didn't miss a thing all afternoon and added a calm assurance to the backline.

Overall a good result to end the year and with results going our way, another unbeaten run would see us get back in contention for a play off spot.

Totally deserved the win and could and should have scored a hat full more. I wouldn't say great performance as the Tilbillies didn't offer anything except for Paul King giving us something to laugh at.

I wouldn't exactly say he played for the first team, but he was definatly in the squad and yes I do remember him while he was with the club. He did have a small profile on the old unoffficial CanveyFC.com too.

Yes thanks for that, Ive been to most games over the last 15 years or so but dont really recall him so was scratching my head when the "Canvey Reject" call went up prompting his Mum to reply "Shut up you mugs" and "How come Canvey fans watch their football with their heads up their xxxx"

As I say "Charming" !

I had no real problem with Paul King until he started kicking everyone in sight at their place earlier in the season, and then gave a load of stick to our fans when they beat us.

If you give it out the banter you've got to learn how to take it aswell Mrs. King!
