Apologies for delay in report but I was unwell for a few days and have only just got back on a computer.

Margate Reserves finally overcame a stubborn, hard working Croydon side in extra time, though in reality should have won the game in normal time, Croydon being kept in it by excellent keeping from Barry Andrews. They now meet Holmesdale in the quarter finals.

In the 4th minute a cross from Rob Summers was met by Joe Taylor but he hit his shot wide. Chris Lewis then looked like he was brought down in the box after a goalmouth scramble but the ref waved play on. Gate then had 3 corners in succession with the third finding Summers on the edge of area, whose shot flew just over the bar. Then in the 20th minute Margate took the lead when a shot by Ryan Harker was cruelly deflected off a Croydon defender, the ball looping over Andrews head.

Olti Keci then put in a great pass which picked out Harker who shot wide. Taylor then went on a run and put a dangerous cross in which a Crydon defender nearly turned past his keeper but Andrews just managed to smother it before it crossed the line. Lewis then cut in to the area just before the interval and hit a good shot but once again Andrews made a good save, this time with his feet.

The second half started much the same when a through ball by Summers was met by Elliott Payne who tried to lob the oncoming Andrews but his effort went just wide of the post. Then in the 62nd minute a mistake in the Margate defence let in Levi Evans who sloted the ball home for the equalizer. Margate then made two substitutions and one of these, Kenny Pratt made a good run on the right and found Taylor who turned in the area but saw his shot come of a post. Another defence mix up nearly let in Evans again but lucky for Margate he shot wide.

In the 78th minute Dan Stokes joined the attack but watched as his well hit shot went just wide. Five minutes from the end Taylor had another shot which the Andrews saved and when the ball rebounded to Pratt he fired it over the bar. A minute later Pratt hit a better shot but the formidable Andrews pushed it around the post. Then a minute from time Pratt was brought down in the area and Alan Heath stepped up to take the penalty and, although hitting it well, Andrews flung himself to his left and saved, putting the game into extra time.

Margate then virtually controlled most of this extra 30 minutes and, despite a few more saves by Andrews, from a header and a shot by Shannon McNamee in the first period, he was unable to stop Margate taking the lead in the 108 minute when a cross by Taylor was met by Pratt who hit it sweetly into the corner of the net. Two minutes later a run by McNamee resulted in him being dragged dowm in the area. He chose to take it himself and, though Andrews got his hands to it the shot was too fierce for him to keep out. In the 115th minute, Taylor rounded off a fine game when he latched onto a through ball and rounded the keeper to put his side 4-1 up and into the quarter finals.

Team: Rowlands, Stokes, Summers, Heath, Anderton, Harker, Keci (McNamee), Hinley, Taylor, Lewis (Pratt), Payne. Subs not used: Hoggart, Albrecth, Karamba
