That was the first successful playing of fixtures on Boxing Day, 26th December since season 1998-99 when the day fell on a Saturday and the following two games were played :-

Brentwood 1 (James Grandison) Burnham Ramblers 1 ( Dean Francis ): Ilford 3 ( Fenn , Junor and Fox) East Ham Utd 3 ( Weare 2, Singleton ) Ross Weare went on to play in the Football League )

For supporters and league officials it's easier to get up and go and watch a game of football. To us players, managers, coaches of ESL sides, being asked to play on a day where you are supposed to rest and enjoy the festivity with your dearest,IT'S OUT OF ORDER!I would like to know who had the idea of playing on a wednesday Boxing Day...I bet the "big clubs" asked for it...bumper crowds?you must be joking and is the only break we are supposed to have!us and the pitches!A red letter day, they call it...bollox! mad

with saturday fixture it will be 3 games in 7 days(AT CHRISTMAS!) and those wenkers talk about overuse injuries!I bet they must have been pleased about the crowds...4 at the london derby..mauritius-eton manor,1000 at Barking,500 at Basildon,250 at Concord,200 at Hullbridge,350 at Enfield. It's all about thanks to some greedy club officials that these games have been played. You just had to look at the players faces of both teams to realise where they wanted to be today....and you know what? After nearly breaking their legs on bloody muddy pitches,a lot of them are going to work tomorrow!Have a think about lads and we moan about not producing enough technically good players...How can we?We are kicking lumps out of each other on muddy pitches when the rest of the world is having a deserved rest to celebrate Jesus birth.madness, that's what is! flame

And you know what? At 22.00 even the mitoo web-site is not updated with todays midday results...the web-master must know something... smile

coachie wise words fella and i can see where your coming from but i personally disagree. i respect your point that we should spend the day with our loved ones and relatives but to me i couldnt think of anything worse as i already spend 364 days with my mob. i dont agree that most players today didnt wanna be there i wouldnt of wanted to be anywhere else, i dont persoanlly get paid but i do beleive that the majority of us play just cos we love the game. yes possibly we should of just played this saturday but thats not down to us i guess that the leagues call.

bascially im all for a game on boxing day and thats not just cos we won its just how i feel. coachie calm down son the yids won thats all that matters.

Jaimie,it's the only time in the football season when we can have a little break and having already played last saturday,it would have been wiser to play next saturday 29th December.Players and managers have been enjoying themselves yesterday and to ask them to play on Boxing day only for the sake of 10 more people through the gates,it's just greediness. As you said i could have gone with my kids to watch Tottenham or taking them out shopping.Yes Tottenham won but i wasn't there when i could have been given a chance to see them playing. frown

And i forgot....you have been 3 months cruising in Australia while we have been playing...fecking part-timer! attentat

Barking 81 average 64 + 17

concord 57 average 56 - 1

Enfield 100 average 94 + 6

Hullbridge 43 average 33 + 10

Mauritius 4 average 9 - 5

Basildon 71 average 40 + 31

Considering that Basildon game was a local derby and Bowers attendance are 63 or something,it's not really a bumper crowd.Barking,Enfield,Concord had more or less the same average crowd and Hullbridge 10 more people were the Burnham players suspended or injured that had to pay!(hi Monk grin)Mauritius - 5 so was really worth it?That's the question! frown

In 1988-89 Woodford Town played Eton Manor on Christmas Eve (Eton Manor won 2-1). This would solve the problem of players having to work the next day! grin

Christmas fixtures - bring it on!!!

It's pointless playing a football game in the ESL on a wednesday boxing day.The Basildon game has been advertised everywhere in Basildon, still they only got 71 through the gates that is not even the sum of what Bowers and Basildon get together on a home game. The other clubs ie Barking derby vs Romford only 81 who i bet 50 were Romfordians and only 31 disillutioned Barking fans.Concord got one less than their average size crowd(56) and 3 points thrown away.We amateurs, want to enjoy Christmas time and there was no need to play a wednesday fixture on Boxing Day.I don't drink too much but even myself like a glass or two at Christmas and we want to spend our little break at home with our families and not worrying about a football game at 12 o'clock the following day.I don't give a toss about overpaid professional players on £20-30-40-50-60 thousands a week,my concern is towards onest,hard-working,football lovers ESL players that play 60 games in a season without a break unless a game is called off.Give our Christmas and Boxing day back to us! flame

coach - when did the fixture list come out? or were you only informed about having to play on boxing day last week?

otherwise, surely the best time to complain about this would have been before the event?

i see your team lost. hardly suprising when according to you, they didn't want to be there and instead of inspiring or getting something out of them, you just moaned about having to play the fixture.

gaffer makes an interesting point. does seem to me like you're not enjoying the kitchen very much. perhaps it's time to get out?

ha ha!We noticed that grinI would like to point out one thing to all ESL managers and coaches.Everytime we play Burnham,it's a well fought but fair game. Both set of players are not shying away from tackles and the management teams are exemplary on the touchlines.Have a think about chaps....

First:FECK IT OFF!My 12 players that played on the day were a credit to the club and their managers. They gave 100% and were only beaten by a free-kick given by a half asleept linesman.I haven't decided to play on Boxing Day.It has been a decision,i guess, taken by the League Chairman after consultation with the clubs secretaries.Stansted,Barkingside,Beaumont,Clapton and Apsa haven't played.Third,Yes,i'm not happy in the kitchen trying to cook something without the right ingredients. If you know a 5 stars hotel let me know mate,so i can shut the wenkers like you up! tongue

calm down dear.

i didn't say you decided to play on boxing day, merely that before the event may have been a better time to moan about it.

i apologise for the dig at your players, although i will add that it was actually you that said "you just had to look on their faces to see where they'd rather be" you yourself would have rather been at the lane.

i'll leave the hotel thing alone, as it made no sense at all.

if esl football and linos and refs and forums and fixtures stress you out so much, the answer is mind boggling simple, even for one as hollow-skulled as you.
