It's Boxing Day and while I appear to be sitting quietly in my usual seat at the Navigation Inn, I am more than usually distracted.

I've ridden my Moped past Wright's Flour Mill, the flats and the Gas Works on the way to the Inn for the last thirty years but my worried mind didn't allow me to register any of the over familiar landmarks.

Will Joan be here soon? Her high profile as a Labor member for the Borough has made our relationship precarious to say the least.

To make it worse, Josie O'Ware, the other woman, is threatening to 'go public'.

It isn't the first time that my rugged good looks and pronounced beer gut had drawn hapless women in a lust filled frenzy. Joan and Josie were a problem, but not the problem.

The dilemma?

I'm torn.

Wait for Joan and have six or seven pints at The Nav and then head off to Potter's Bar or forget her and catch the 313 now. Get there early, and settle in at the Admiral Byng for a bit of a session before today's match?

No contest!
