Town boss quits

LEIGHTON Town manager Keith Scott quit the club this week to take over at Windsor and Eton.

The surprise announcement came on Wednesday – just four days after Leighton's fine 4-1 victory away to local rivals Dunstable Town.

Scott said: "My reasons for going are quite simple. The club I'm joining have a much bigger playing budget than at Leighton so I feel it is an opportunity I can not turn down. I have said on many occasions that the squad at Leighton is good enough but not big enough and the club needed investment for it to progress.

"I would like to thank local businessmen Danny Brazier and Jonathan David Estate Agents for their kind donations to the club as without them we may not have been able to bring in the players we did at the beginning of the season and possibly would not have reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.

"The committee who run theclub do a fantastic job but if the club have ambition to move up the non-league ladder, then it is businessmen like Danny Brazier and Jonathan David who must be allowed to invest and help run the club.

"I would like to thank Sean and Paul, my assistants, who have been brilliant. Finally I would like to thank the players because from the day I arrived at the club they have been first class and it has been a pleasure to work with them all and I will miss them all. I will see most of them on Wednesday evening but the ones I don't I will call. Thanks to you the supporters who come most weeks to cheer your team on."

Chairman Iain McGregor said: "I'm disappointed he is going but wish him every success in the future. We will start our search immediately for a new manager."

Sean Downey and Paul Copson will act as caretaker managers until the club makes an appointment in the new year.

Ah. Very thoughtful of that admin, as I do agree the Windsor forum ought to be even more interested than Slough. Although you did have a pretty busy thread on Mr Lane going.

Anyway, good to know that Tom was talking sense, and I am now unconfused.

Ooh, catty! Here's the closest I can come to a scritch behind the ears,

boo

(afraid it's a Miss though).

Here's some press approval, and they've definitely been reading the board to judge by the rumours they quote :

http://icberkshire.icnetwork.co.uk/0200sports/1000localfootball/tm_headline=colonel-set-for-royalist-return%26method=full%26objectid=20274379%26siteid=50102-name_page.html

As soon as news of Lane's departure reached the Windsor fans, Scott - along with Burnham manager Dave Mudge - was soon the name on everyone's lips.

Former Windsor skipper Jamie Jarvis, who is doing an outstanding job at Beaconsfield SYCOB and Greene have both been linked with the job,but it would appear that the Coronel has stolen a march on them all.

Mind you, I'm not sure the Coronel is such a good name.
