For example, Harry's Miami Dolphins play in turquoise shirts and white pants at home and white shirts and turquoise pants away, and both sets have orange trim (occasionally, they will play with orange shirts instead, but you get the idea). That way the Miami club is always associated with those colors in the minds of the fans.

It's very odd to me to have completely different color schemes for home and away, so if there is some long tradition or reason for doing that, I am very curious about it.

its not so much as an away strip per se josh... its an alternative strip to avoid colour clashes with the home team who obviously have preference....it has evolved over the years to an away strip thingy and a good few clubs these days have a third strip...(it also helps NL club volunteers who do the washing of....)

The yellow is only a relatively recent introduction to the badge though (mid-Nineties or thereabouts, possibly to coincide with our 50th anniversary). Before that it was always printed in either just red and white or black and white.

Maybe it is because there are more teams, and similar colours in Football, therefor there could still be a clash!

Could you guys help me and tell me what were the colours of Gravesend United FC. If a deal has to be done on a strip for next season I thought that if Gravesend FC colours were not red and white, they could be used for the away strip but I can’t find out what Gravesend FC colours were. Can you help as if any one should know it should be you’s guys.

The very kit we once played in at Halifax(red shirts and socks, green shorts) caused by a colour clash with our various GLS kits. Looked awful.

Re American kits, in baseball particularly, the home side wears predominantly white and their "road" uniforms are a variant e.g my mob,the Chicago Cubs, wear white with blue pinstripes at Wrigley Field, but on the road it is usually grey or grey trousers with a royal blue top. Go Cubbies.

Collingwood are a foundation club in Australian Rules competition.

Home colours:Black and White vertical stripes (the Magpies)

Since then other sides have come into the comp with vertical stripes so the clubs were urged to come up with an away strip.

Collingwood, staunch traditionalists, were the only club to refuse, stating that their away strip was White and Black vertical stripes.

Football would be easier if the Home side had to provide the opposition with a set of contrasting shirts for each game.

Home side is Red and Black...they provide a set of white shirts for every team that visits.

Yeah, I know...it's not traditional...but it would be simple!

May have trouble getting the opposition names printed on there shirts in time though hey lol, as the team sheet is only issued a hour or so before kick off so a new kit each week, or maybe give them name tags on string around there neck. druff

Leaving aside other sports for a moment, why would we want to play in White & Black ( didn't it used to be referred to as Black & White a few years ago ? pre Blair !!)....isn't that Dartford colours ?? We don't want that sort of talk Wilson !!

I liked the dark blue Gravesend Reporter shirt myself !

But, not being a member of the "club" my view doesn't count !! I have got used to that over the past few weeks......

Cheers....
