MyFC - the latest progress!

From an article on their site. Note the new kit proposals!

>>

Nine days before Christmas and still a little patience is required until all the fun and games can begin. We’d planned to post a due diligence update article last week, however, while the final touches are being put to the deal, the wise men thought it prudent to hold off. The good news is, the process is going well thus far, and, although no one can predict the future, we are hopeful that the deal can be completed, if not by Christmas, then shortly thereafter.

Over the last 10 days, foundations continue to be laid for what will be an exciting six weeks on the website. You wait for a vote and then three come along at once.

Firstly, members will get to decide whether to accept or decline the takeover of Ebbsfleet United. Details of the legal and financial due diligence will be presented to members and we’ll all be given time to consider these.

Should members decide to purchase the club, attention will turn to the pitch. We’ll be taking control mid-season, during the all-important January transfer window, so it will be up to members to give the green light to any plans the coaching staff have already made. All EUFC player contracts all run out in April, so it’s possible that Liam Daish will want to secure a number of the current players until April 2009. He may also wish to bring in some fresh faces, ones that he and his scouts have been looking at during the first half of the season.

Another members’ vote in the coming weeks will be whether or not to accept a new kit deal for the club. Before this vote, precise details of the deal will be presented including benefits for players and supporters, and the financial implication for the club.

Again, the rush is on because January is a key month for team kit and merchandise. To enable football clubs to have stock ready for July/August, typically, decisions have to be made in January. This puts us in a tricky position. However, the Web Team feel that members should be given the opportunity to make a decision now, rather than get to February and miss the boat. Just as importantly, failing to anticipate this could cost the club financially, so we felt it was important to get the ball rolling.

If members decide to go with this manufacturer, a secondary vote will be held to choose the design of the kit.

We must also begin the process of forming our Trust Board. Once due diligence is out of the way, The Legal Team will write an article on how these elections will work. It will be a matter of members proposing candidates, and we will then ask these members whether or not they wish to stand. Personally, I hope that our Board includes a member of the Fleet Trust and one of the previous owners. Having spoken to the various parties at EUFC, it’s clear that they all have the very best interests of their club at heart. So being able to unite them makes enormous sense to me, and can only benefit the football club.

The game against York City nine days ago was a washout in more ways that one. And on Saturday, in the absence of any catastrophic refereeing decisions, the only risk to the FA Trophy victory was a deep fat fryer. Apparently, pre-match, it was clogging up the club’s electrics and affecting the floodlights. But the show went on, the goals rained in and Carshalton had their chips.

There will be another update before 25 December where we hope to be able to lay out a takeover timetable.

Yes I noticed that. I'm assuming it means in terms of material/cut.

I can't believe for a minute myfc would be suggesting changing team colours as the idea is to try and integrate, not alienate. Most of the posts I've read have been about keeping up tradition. I'm sure if anyone did suggest a colour change, the great majority would vote for the existing design. Maybe a discreet myfc badge somewhere, perhaps? smile

There will be no change in kit colours - only in design. To be honest I think the current one is very good.

MyFC might vote against it for this very reason - and let's see the full details of the proposal before jumping to conclusions.

Thats the only excercise some of us get - jumping to conclusions, running MyFC down, throwing toys out of pram etc, etc!

Kenny. It has to be Kenny. I'll be campaign manager. We need badges, hats, a manifesto. A box for him to stand on to make speeches and one of those vans with a loudspeaker on top.

We also need a private police force to stand around the ballot boxes with machine guns, looking menacing and generally 'advising' people who to vote for.

This is to the board of the MyFC Trust rather than the board of EUFC Ltd or are they to serve on both ?

Would it also be a good thing if a member of the trust served on the board of MyFC Ltd ?

The board of MyFC and the board of EUFC are two different bodies with different tasks and responsibilities.

Assuming the takeover goes ahead as planned then MyFC will control 51% of the shares of EUFC. Decisions will be taken on the basis of the shareholding. This does not mean that the board of EUFC will be redundant any more that the operation of the current board is - the difference will be that the board of EUFC will operate in an open and transparent way.

Getting back to the new kit proposal, I have a question or two some of you long-time supporters may be able to answer. (As far as a proposal to change colors, etc., that's not going to be an issue.)

I have assumed, especially for the bigger clubs, that the kit sponsor puts a pretty decent amount of cash into the club for the right to make the kit. Is this true or am I dreaming it?

If it is true, does the same relationship exist for smaller clubs also, with reduced amounts of support?

My first thought when I heard another kit maker had made a proposal is that this would mean a hefty sponsorship deal for the club. If that's true, then despite the fact that it means the supporters will end up buying yet another new jersey (I just bought two this month), it would be a benefit to the club in its drive to sign new players and spiff up the facilities.

Would someone comment on the current kit sponsorship relationship? I'm not trying to stir anyone up, just trying to understand how this aspect of club management typically works.

I think we need to wait and see if it is a new kit made by a new kit company, or the same kit 07-08 just made by a bigger kit company.

Is giving people who bought the 07-08 shirt a discount on an 08-09 shirt an option ? I suppose that would depend on the number sold.

2 quicks points that got a big NO when talked about on the MYFC forum a few months back.

1) Change Colours

2) MYFC badge on them.

We are a traditional lot, you dont mess with colours. I dont even like Leicester playing in blue shorts instead of white.

Is yellow the traditional 2nd team colour ?

The home strip is always red and white, the away strip is a different colour/colours every year, one year recently we had blue shirts and green shorts with green socks!

We ran out in one match played at this time of year with the home red shirts and the away green shorts and socks to Lord Chas's famous comment "They look like Santas little helpers".

Do you think a constant away colour scheme would be good ?

I think the yellow looks smart.

If you are from my era, starting watching about 1971, if I named you some clubs. I bet you could tell me their away colours ?

Arsenal , Leeds United, Liverpool, Man Utd

I watched Liverpool on TV last week in France. From their colours, they could have been anybody from any country. Adidas FC.

You're having a laugh aren't you ? Man Utd away kits over the years ?? I can sing a rainbow !! Plus the one that they claimed that they couldn't see each other in........did they change it at half time in that game ? Or was that the one where the got stuffed by Southampton and so used it as an excuse ?

No doubt Mr Wapman, now renamed UtdFan, could bore us for weeks on Man U away kits in the last 20 years !! I think he has most of the shirts ?

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz !
