Could locals help MYFC members at games ?

I think Caley's taken the title as coldest stadium in Scotland now, at least Pittodrie is reasonably enclosed, at Caley the wind just comes straight off the Moray Firth unchecked.

That's probably Celtic's excuse for yesterday, anyway.

Certainly the ground and its position are off putting to the locals. Originally in an industrial/wasteland setting it's now surrounded by a mix of industry/commercial premises and is at the poor end of Northfleet (is there a rich end?).

The ground itself as has already been said, is not a place to spend a bitter winter's day, or in a storm...For many years I've been there, no matter what the weather, but I've reached the age when I need a little comfort and no longer wish to freeze my extremities watching a game of football. The seats help at the Plough end but when that wind blows from across the marshes, by Christ it's cold.

Whilst not the only reason for people not supporting the 'fleet, the conditions certainly don't help. In these days of watching most other forms of entertainment in abject luxury, it takes the really committed fan to come to Stonebridge Road.

Probably not to maintain the status quo, but if MyFC and the Fleet are serious about wanting to make progress then, yes, I would say it was a matter of urgency.

Then the fun will start, Capacity ?

Did you see that Scunthorpe who had a new ground in my lifetime, are now looking about getting another one ? Might be fun to do a bit of research to see for example how big other grounds are being built ? , Colchester I think could be interesting. Not so long ago they were conference, now they are Championship .

Ofcourse a bigger ground will be dearer, but the basic land cost would be about the same unless you had to allow for more parking. Grounds can also be built with possible expansion in mind.

A new ground would be a great project, but how many teams have had a financial millstone around their necks with a new ground.

As somebody said, we are living in interesting times.

I think that Colchester's new Cuckoo Fields stadium (as viewable from the A12) is going to double their potential capacity from the 6,000 that Layer Road currently enjoys. Obviously I use the word 'enjoy' in its wider sense as anyone who has been to Layer Road will testify. Not too sure about Scunthorpe although you're quite right that their current stadium is relatively 'new'. In fact, if it hadn't been for taking the nipper to a Christmas treat on Saturday, I could have given you a full report on the ground as the mighty Canaries are appearing there (for a creditable 0-0 draw) this week!

Up The Fleet!

Back to the original point, I'll be happy to meet any MyFC members before games soon.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! If you would like to be more vocal at games, do not hesitate to come and stand by the drum, join in at full voice, ask the words and meanings to songs. The atmosphere has been pretty tame at Stonebridge Road this year, I'm sure a few new enthusiasts would revive it a bit and lift the players too. Singing at the Fleet is one thing that, for me personally, makes me feel at home- maybe this would be a good way for a MyFC member to feel integrated into the club?

That's good to know - one thing that I've always loved about football is the vocal participation - what's the point of going to watch a match in stony silence or with the occasional polite applause? B***ocks to that, I want to have a full blooded yell - when Norwich beat the Scum (sorry, Ipsh*t) in the League Cup Semi-Final in 1985 courtesy of a late winning goal from Steve Bruce I couldn't speak for three days afterwards. Can't wait to line up near the drum when I lose my Stonebridge virginity!

LH I look forward to it too. I take it you're not a member of the Sol Campbell 'Let's take passion out of football and Americanise it into a meaningless pastime' brigade?

Not the Poms Micky Boy........Roy Keane, who is Irish, had a bit of a problem with the corporate "guests" at a Man Utd game once. They were perceived to be not adding to the atmoshphere as they were still in hospitality for most of the game and appeared to not be aware whether it was Easter or Christmas !! Still, that's Man U for you.....watch out for QPR being the same way in 3 years time !!!

Don't get too burnt at the Christmas "barbie" !!

Have a good one

Cheers,

DA...the staff will have to take shorter steps.

Hirsty...pissing down here and expecting 40-60mm (2 inches+) rain over the next few days. Xmas barbie might be a wet one.

Spent Xmas '96 at Hartley-Wintney? just south of London...dinner was put on by a French bloke who was a Director of Grand Marnier...WaggaSally's cousin is a vet there...unbelievable spread...left the Xmas Barbie for dead!

Definitely a case of a horse running out of his class!
