The ESL Champions and The Unlucky Few!!

Recommended Posts

I was bored at work one fine day and i got thinking.......

I have looked at the league and have witnessed all the so called title contenders for this season.

Do you think that the Best 3-5 teams this season are as good as the final 3-5 teams in the ESL Standings in each of the last 5 years??

ie. would Enfield 18938948784 beat Enfield Town and would Ryman Rejects FC beat AFC Playertheft?

The floor is now open!!

AFC Playertheft and Ryman Rejects FC are basically the same sides, so they would probably cancel each other out!

The old Enfield Town were a decent side imo.

I think the ESL has got better, with better quality players stepping down to take part.

The league used to be known for being a bit too "kick and run" or "punch, kick and spit" to get out the league.

Think its a bit different now, and as long as you have good players, and most importantly "winners" you can get out the league.

Hornchurch had Danny Heale, Billy Holland and Ricki Burbridge as their strikers. The last two are playing at a higher standard now, and its obviously that Healey could do if he wanted to.

Midfield were very sound with the Cowleys in the middle of the park, and good options outwide like Tiffin.

Defensively they were a rock apart from Jug Ears, but luckily he had ugly Kingy next to him to save him... grin

AFC Hornchurch put the ESL on the map. Up until then every one thought it was a Saturday afternoon pub league. The league was crying out for a big name with a large fan base to make the outside world take notice, and by doing the treble AFCHX did that.

Brentwood did well last season and now i think Enfield will also do the treble. It would be nice to see the old club do well again.

Granted , the AFCH team in the ESL was an awesome results machine , fantastic players, club with great facilities and were a great addition. I have no qualms with that .
But to say that Hornchurch made the ESL not a pub league is, i think , a bit pretentious and if i may add, a bit insulting . Every player that played from AFCH in their senior league year was already an ESL player. The esl has always been competitive, before AFCH and after it.
